Canada does own rights to it as the national sport, but im going to have to sat B-More. They have the bayhawks who have won..like 2-3 MLL championships. They have Hopkins and many other colleges near by consistently winning national championships, and they always produce the top ranked high school teams. Baltimore, with no question in my mind.

IDK where you all are getting NY. Looks look at the MLL Champion this year. BALTIMORE BAYHAWKS. Now lets look at the D1 National Champions. JOHNS HOPKINS UNIVERSITY...which is in baltimore right? Now lets look at the top ranked H.S Team in the nation. MCDONOGH...which happens to be right outside of Baltimore!! HOLY COW!

This tells a whole lot: Pretty much, the only people who have voted for Canada are from Canada. The only people who vote Long Island are from Long Island. However, the majority of people voting for Baltimore don't even live in Maryland. Using their unbiased opinions, Baltimore reigns supreme.

Long Island? Yeah, name some top DI colleges in that area...wait, there are close to none. Or high schools-the majority of the top NY highschools aren't even from LI. Granted, LI does have a lot of great lacrosse highschools, but there are far more outside of LI that are also in that top tier.

Canada? Yeah, lacrosse is their national sport, but everyone in Canada is hockey crazy, not lacrosse crazy. Also, it's a bit unfair to put an entire country as a candidate for the home of a sport, while the other contenders are two small regions in the US. Also, while both box and field lacrosse are far from the traditional Native American game, field lacrosse is marginally closer to it. Canada is 80-90% box lacrosse.

Baltimore. Ah yes, Baltimore. Home of the Division I National Champions AND Division III Champions. Also home of the reigning MLL Champions-a team that has won more championships than any other MLL team so far, and fielded arguably the best MLL team in it's brief history. They also have the top high school lacrosse programs in the country. Oh, and they also host arguably the biggest recruiting showcase/high school tourney in the country, Champ Camp. And, let's not forget that they are home to STX Lacrosse, one of the oldest and most innovative lacrosse companies in history.

I agree with lax101. If you are going to put Canada and Australia as options...then how come baltimore and and LI are even options? If its going to be that way then the United States as a whole should be a choice...or switch canada to like B.C. But like Lax101 said...its not fair for a city to go agaisnt a country. Even though Baltimore is still owning. HAHAHAHAHA (cue world domination music)

EDIT: I also think this thread should be re-titled CAPITAL OF LACROSSE.

Or would it would Capitol? I never know the difference.

Capital.

And I think he brings up a good point. The Iroquois nations created lacrosse, so that would technically be the 'home'. But Baltimore is definitely the biggest region for lacrosse in the world, the 'capital'

We aren't talking about where lacrosse is having the most success.. we're talking about where it originated.

Repp'n LI.
If we're gunna say where it originated, then there is no debate. We can pull out a history book and look back for the oldest recorded traces of lacrosse. And if we're debating where it originated, then the answer is (insert various native american tribes). So no, that is not the purpose for this thread.

we just need some clarification if we are arguing about the "home" which would be its origin, or if we are talking about that "capital" which would be where it is the most popular and skilled etc etc.

Ridicilious, where is New Jersey? Rutgers and Princeton, teams like L'ville, Delby, Mountain Lakes, Summit etc and not in the top 5. Undoubtedly they are number 3. More overall recruits, 87 D1 division one recruits for NJ and 50 for CT. CT sent 4 kids last year to schools in this seasons top 5(Duke, Hop, UVA, Terps, Cuse), NJ sent 9.

the true home of lacrosse can only be where it originated, and that's the native americans that lived along the NY state/ontario border.

in the 1880, a candian dentist (from toronto, i believe) went to baltimore, and started it there, some time in the 30s? howdy meyers, a the JHU football coach left baltimore for hofstra and LI and is generally credited with starting lax there.

of course, since philly broke the attendance record last spring, this philly boy says the current home is lincoln financial field! :naughty:

Please read what I said about how putting "Canada" is unfair against Baltimore and LI, ie two very small regions up against an entire country. If you wanna play that game, it might as well be US vs Canada.

depends what you consider the "home" to be...
based on the origins of the sport and those tribes that plaed I would say Canada...based on the fact it is their national sport...Canada...
Based on strong HS and college teams...Balto/LI...Based on where the hall of fame is and...balto...

i agree with James... i was doing some research and i found out that the indians invented lax, only the games would last for days on end. Also, they would span ENTIRE forests. it was used to train warriors, becuase skills were involved, but players werent killed (this was effective becuase it trained warriors, without killing them). Some tribes would even use the skull of someone from another tribe as a ball! thats pretty sick. Just thought id let everyone know haha. -peace-

Wow I mean... I guess I'm just naive... being from VA I always thought that VA was at least in the top 5 or something...

I had a really heated debate with one of my buddies on my High School team about whether or not VA should be in the top 5...?

DOES Virginia [the state not college] get any credit in the Lax community?

Basing this on history and not who has the best teams, it would be just overall the North Eastern part of the United States and the South Eastern part of Canada. The Iroquois Indian were the first to play, and they resided in that general area. You can't say one town or city or even a whole country is the home.
