I tried the Brine lax tape, but i thought it was too flurescent, tacky(sticky) and left residue on my stick. When i search it on google the Brine stuff is the only one which comes up and the hockey tape is like £100! also could you explain the benfits of candy cane taping and how to do it. thanks

Hockey tape is really cheap. It costs 2 or 3 dollars american, or 1.5 to 2.5 euros. Most players use that or basic athletic tape

Athletic tape is less rough than hockey tape, and usually comes in wider widths. It's your choice. Generally, both of them have poor durability in rainy games so you'll need to replace it once in awhile.

The candy cane taping is so you have grip all around your shaft, but without wasting an entire roll of tape on your stick. Candy cane provides a mix of smoothness and grip, so you have just enough all around your shaft. Tape also adds some weight, so candy canes minimize that.

The downsides of it is that with tape, it's harder to switch hands (a lot of friction with tape). And with candy caning, since you have tape all over your shaft, it's much harder. IMO, girls lacrosse players don't need tape, unless you wear gloves. You should have MORE than enough grip just with your bare hands, while guys tape because most gloves don't provide great grip.

As far as how to candy cane, search around TLF for spiral tape jobs, candy cane, or whatever.

go with hockey tape or with a shaft that has good grip

Athletic tape bunches up easier, especially if you try candy cane taping with it.

Dunno if you can get this in GB, but I really prefer the Canadian brand Renfrew for hockey tape. It is a lot more grippy and seems to be tougher than other American brands that I have tried. I however have no idea on its availability in Europe.

And about candy caning, I prefer to use the criss-cross method, I think it gives more even grip. And if you don't want to use a ton of tape to do it, you can use half strips for it. That is what I do and I love it.

I use Renfrew, and mix candy cane with a normal tape job, and it works great.

I use athletic lape. Its very cheap and there are lots of ways to put it on. I use athletic tape with the "snake grip."

By some hockey tape. If it isnt grippy enough, lightly spray on some spray glue and then heat it with a hair dryer. That puts the grippy glue embedded in the tape which makes for a super duper grippy tape job.

I really hope it hasn't taken them 2 years to decide which tape to use...
I use hockey tape though.

You can't go wrong with Renfrew hockey tape. It's always been great to me.

Hockey tape if you wanna go cheap. If you wanna buy a shaft for it's grip, I'd say the warrior diamond. It's a very tacky grip that won't slip and is just overall good I'd say.

seeing as how this thread is over two years old...i think he may have decided on what tape to use. Although to make this a general thread, I think regular athletic tape is the way to go. Having something too grippy lessens your ability to switch hands quickly and could even rip your palms a little faster than other tapes.
