View Full Version : not so abrasive tape
Hey I was wondering whether there was a kind of grip tape that was grippy, but not too grippy. I have gait insanity gloves and when I use tape, it tears off the logos and its way too grippy. But without tape the shaft (db803) slides too much in my hands, so I do need some sort of grip. So, what kind of tape could I get at any sports store or hardware store that is less abrasive than regular athletic tape?

Are you sure you're using athletic tape and not hockey tape?
The brand is Mueller. I got it from a lax store and I think they said that it was athletic tape.

You could try ZoneTak or spray on Plastidip if you have no other options.

white hockey tape.... black tape wears out the palms of the glove.... or you can just buy a new grippy shaft
Is brine grip tape any good? I don't know if I could get it here though.

Yeah if it's Mueller it's probably athletic tape. I've used that a few times and I never had problems with it being too sticky. That's actually my favorite tape cause it doesn't leave marks or anything on the shaft and it has like a nice feel cause it's not too sticky (in my opinion).
edit - Crap, I was thinking of Renfrew. My friends use Mueller though, and they like it. I think I've only used that once.

Why does black tape rip up your gloves and white doesn't?
No its not too sticky. My old brine gloves worked fine with it. Its just that my insanity palms wear off really quickly when I use tape with them. and the grip feels rough. Does anyone use tape with their insanity gloves?

Black tape contains chemicals or something that kill the palms of your gloves. They're not any grippier.

it poured rain at one of our practices, soaked all my stuff. the next day i put tape on my shaft and it was so nice and grippy. so if your looking for something try making the tape moist.

Well, seeing how he's trying to get not so grippy tape, that might not work. Read before you post.
I have At Target they sell Franklin athletic tape- thats exactly what your looking for. Its cheap, and its soft and wont tear your gloves. I have insanities, and have used that before, but now I use Mueller and have never had a problem with it. I would for sure go to a target and pick it up, its exactly what you need.

Ooo yeah, I luuuuuuuuuurv Renfrew, quite grand.
But if you are looking for not as grippy, I had one kind that I hated that had some american flags on the inside of the roll, it was really unsticky, try that.

wrap your desired area in black tape and then heat it up on a stove or with a heat gun or even a blow dryer might work... Once you heat it up peel it off and it will be textured sticky grip... After you play with it and sweat a bit with your bare hand it wont be sticky but it will be a good grip (wont rip your gloves) maybe if you have chaos's it could but.
