My son wants a Razr phone, but we have to keep the one he has for like 14 more months. If we buy one outright, it's $380.00. I am looking for info on where, if at all, I can get a Razr compitable with Alltel. Any suggestions?

the best way, but semi-risky would be to get it unlocked off ebay. i'm not sure about alltel, but i have cingular and our phones carry sim cards that we can just switch between phones. if alltel is similar i'd go ebay.

I have never even heard of Alltell.
Here's a story about how durable Motorola phones are:
I was at a carnival in this chinese ferris wheel, my mom's motorola phone slips out of pocket and falls out of the ride at about 150 feet up and lands on solid concrete. I get off the ride and find the phone and battery, pop them together and the phone looked like it just came out of the box. I was amazed.
As for my LG I have currently, I have had it replaced 2 times that were due to water damage that was totally my fault, so I hadn't had my new LGvx6000 for more than one week when it was in my lap when I was driving in my car, get out of my car it falls out of my lap onto my drive way and a bottom piece snaps off so now the battery has to be held on by a rubberband. Then I dropped it at publix the next day and the entire back of it split wide open and the hinge part (flip phone) has a huge chunk missing from it. The phone feels light and cheaply produced, not like solid Motorola or Nokia phones.
So RAZRs are definetly very well put together, as you can tell from the sheer popularity of them.
As for finding one compatible with Alltell -- like skip said, find an unlocked one on ebay.

The only problem I've heard regarding the razr is that some people find the hinge a little fragile, and that after a few months of use, the keypad starts to smell a bit funky.

I own a Razr and happen to love it. My question is this; How old is your son, and what purposes does he have for a phone like the Razr? I bought my Razr for several business-related purposes, and simply because of it's size. I understand why people are attracted to the Razr, but at it's price tag, I think people who are simply looking for a good phone might have more economical options.

I also own a Razr and my 2 complaints are that the hinge is somewhat weak and that if dropped and landed on the hinge, the hinge may break and the front outer screen will probobly crack, this happened to my brother.

I love my Razr...everyone has them now though so it sucks. They dont have many real cool features. you cant do anything with a Razr that any other phone cant do. You pay 300 bucks for a skinny phone.

It's skinny, and takes video.

True, but you can buy Film Majors for like half as much, and theyre basically the same thing. I picked mine up at UMD for $99.

Hahah, cute. Not all film majors are skinny, sweets. At least, not freshman year. Not until maybe sophomore or junior year, when they cash in their meal plans to buy boom mics, lamps, and software.

I love mine. It really is skinny. Like 1/2 an inch. Great battery life, but I have Cingular so it was simple to change the sim card.

NOPE...i just received my razr off ebay today in the mail, 209 + shipping and handling...and it was unlocked...not risky at all, this one is new-unopened and it came from a phone store...so yeah much better than the 380 price...and its the real deal

i have an lg vx6000 and its ehlp up strong for 2 years now. its a great phone but now that verizon has the razr i want it mainly cuz i want a better screen quality and size, more memory for pics and videos and text messages. the vx6000 is a great phone but it has become outdated in the fast-paced market of cell phones

I almost got a Razr for free when i bought four new tires for my truck... but i already have a cellular telephone, and didn't really want it.
But i do have to admit, they are pretty cool. My friend has one. Even though they are skinny, they are a bit wider than most of the phones on the market.

Wait until samsung comes out with thier model for 06. Makes the RAZR look like a cheap toy.
The phones overseas are ridiculous.....average price is around $700.
Samsung makes one with a 7 megapixel camera.
Best bet for the RAZR however is to either find one unlocked on eBay, or ask if your service (never heard of it) has an "upgrade" program where you trade your phone in and add X amount to switch to a new razr.
Do not pay full price

would you consider switching to cingular or verizon?
Remarkably, Cingular and Verizon are not offered in my area (SE Georgia). When cells first started, a group known as Atlantic Cellular bought the rights to a major portion of SE Georgia. They have since grown and will not allow Cingular to invade their terratory. They do have a recipricating agreement of sorts with Verizon. But, the bottom line in my case is, my son has 15 or 16 months left on his contract.
