Finally. I love the banner!

"What's an intel processor doing in an apple? A whole lot more than in a PC"

So who's getting one of these bad boys? I might try and persuade my dad into getting one for the home computer. I think it would be pretty tight to have. I would like to see how it compares up in speed wise compared to a regualr apple with a regualr G5 processor.

Don't forget the keyword...dual

Well. You won't really use the dualcore all that much unless you're using multi-threaded programs.

P.S. I hate the name of the new laptop. MacBook Pro?

"And now! A laptop from Apple! In conjunction with McDonalds!"

I'm not really sure how I feel about this yet. And the name change from powerbook to macbook just sucks. But I'm not really sure I've been expecting the change for some time now and still don't know if i want my quality proven powerbook or this new macbook. Hmmm.....decisions, decision.

yeah ill end up with one of the new 13.3 inch widescreens... I like macs so much more than PCs, and I can only imagine what intel does for it.

Viennalax: didn't you just get a new laptop because you thought your old one was broken, but you just had the screen contrast at 0?

EDIT: Might have been NYLax, i don't remember

AMD>Intel

Just a note that the current dual core Intel cpu's are mediocre at best, for PC anyway, but I would doubt it would be much different for Mac.

It's generated alot of buzz, so it will probably sell well.

You sound like my former classmates. There's a couple of Intel fabs in my city, and so they sponsored an electrical engineering class I took in high school. One day, we went to get a tour of the fabs, and a number of boys wore AMD shirts.

Yeah. Which is why I'm less than thrilled over them (as I mentioned in the Macworld '06 thread). Oh well. Sighsies.

wait, so why does the macbook description on the site have no mention of G4 or G5... is that because the intel chip replaced it??

They can't run a G5 powerbook it's just not possible right now.

Well, that, and:

They can't run a G5 powerbook it's just now possible right now.

Then in simplification, for now, the intel dualcore processor has replaced the G4 (or G5) in apple laptops. At least, for the MacBook Pro. Until, and if, the powerbooks and iBooks switch to Intel chips, they're still G4 processors using PowerPC chips.

um, kinda a silly question, but whats the Pros and Cons of getting a mac as opposed to a PC

im always open to new ideas, it just seems like Macs are not as practical, but im sure im wrong.

They didn't replace the powerbook with the macbook, they simply gave the moble mac users a new choice. They will co-exist for a while. I hope it's a year before they decide to terminate anything, but it could be sooner.

Well many people like different things about macs. The one I hear most often is "They don't get virus's" or "Their programs are superior." Which are all true, but truelly the thing about macs is they work how they supposed to, no strings attached. You click on Safari (Internet) and it actually pops up with out a hundred pop-ups or spam. Don't let people tell you they're more expensive because if you actually compare specs and programs pre-loaded on their machines, you'll see that you can't find the same for pc. Hope this helped.

The last time I used a mac was back in like 2nd grade when the screen was nothing but green pixels but this is what I have heard:

PC's are more compatible with more software because they are so widely used.

Macs apparently have very little problems and have easier to use interfaces.

I think ---- Apple afficianados always come off as snobs to me: "O... you use a PC... how barbaric." OK well never to that effect but whatever.

Yeah. Macs are slowly being provided with a lot of the software that PCs use, or they have their own alternatives, so no need to spaz. And the only time I've ever encountered any problem with differences in software between macs and PCs is when I've ever been on either one, and had to send schoolwork to the other. But that's no longer a problem since Microsoft provides Office for mac, and there are converters that can be downloaded.

As for ease-of-use, going from PC to Mac is like going from manual to automatic transmission.

The reason mac's dont have viruses is just because what would be the point? 95% of people use PC, and hackers like mac's and they dont want to ruin them. if as many people used macs then they would be full of viruses and junk.

Ya Mac people do come off a little snobby, my cousin works for the Apple store in Caesar's Palace, and he hates it. lots of obnoxious people.

I dont think intel can make any approvements, their currently the worst. Apple/AMD, then way down is intel.

This is untrue, because the market competition radically drives down the price of PC parts. If you buy stuff at MSRP then it will probably be comparable, but if you get sales the market competition is so much higher for PC parts (and PC fixing community so much larger) that it's not even close. Not to mention (at least until recently) Apple has been extremely stringent about allowing sales, so you can't really mine for much better deals. Software can be bought on the cheap on webforums, discounts, etc. Just starting out, however, this may not play as much of a factor for you.
