(Mods I am fully aware that there is an Ipod Megathread, but I am posting a tutorial, which has worked for me and several other people. I also would appreciate if this was stickied, thank you)
Ok, I am posting a tutorial on how to succusfully put dvd's on your ipod. This method is FREE and compleatly legal.
Most tutorials on the internet have instrictions, but they are either incomplete or missing critical information. If you follow this tutorial EXACTLY you will be alble to put dvd's on your ipod.
HOW TO PUT DVD'S ON YOUR IPOD
Steps:
1) go to www.Videora.com and on the main page it will say "Whta is Videora". Scrool down to the almost bottom to the paragraph titled VIDEORA CONVERTER. at the bottom of the paragraph click, CLICK HERE. On the bottom of the page there will be a bunch of listed options, the first one being VIDEORA IPOD CONVERTER, which you will click on. You will then scrool down and download the program.
2)Go to www.Doom9.org. Go to DOWNLOAD, on the left side. Then scrool down to all the listed options, and click Descrambling / Ripping tools. The second shortcut under Descrambling/ ripping tools, will say DVD Decrypter 3.5.4.0. click on this to download.
(BOTH SOFTWARES ARE FREE)
3)Place the DVD you want to rip your video from into your DVD drive.
4) start DVD Decrypter.
5) Go to the Mode menu and select IFO I mode. This will give you access to two new tabs; Input & Stream Processing.
6)Go to the Tools menu, select Settings, go to the IFO tab, then under Options, change File Splitting to None and press OK.
7)Go to the main screen and click the Input tab. It will automatically have the section open where the movie is located (usually "VTS_02"). The PGC file that's highlighted should be the movie you're wanting to rip, double-check this by looking at the time/length of the PGC file highlighted.
8)Now click the Stream Processing tab. Check the "Enable Stream Processing" box at the top. Next, only select the first TWO boxes in the window. The 1st should say "Video" and the 2nd should say "Audio".
9) click Decrypt button (picture of a dvd with an arrow pointing to a computer box)
( this process will take about 18 minuits)
10) When the decryption is done, X out DVD Decrypter.
11) Start Videora Ipod Converter
12)Click setup on the left side
13)Click the profiles tab
14)Click new profile.
15)Now, configure that profile:
profile name: ipod
in the video settings section...
mode: MPEG-4 > CBR
resolution: 320x240
passes: one
bitrate: 768 kbps (384 kbps also works)
framerate: 29.97 fps
format: 1:1 for full-screen
16:9 for wide-screen
in the audio settings section...
bitrate: 128 kbps
sample rate: Input
channels: stereo
16)Click apply to save the profile.
17)Click convert on the left side. (right above where you clicked setup)
18)Click the transcode new video, button
19) click the video you decrypted (should end in .VOB, or .01, or .02.....somthing of that sort). If you cannot find it check under your hard-drive.
20) Under quality profile, choose "ipod", the profile you created using the steps above. *(you have to select this profile EVERY time you put a new movie on, it's not the default)*
21) Change the title to whatever the movie is named. ( ex. Old School, Fight Club)
22)Click start. ( this is a very long process and will take a little over two hours. THE PROGRESS BAR ON VIDEORA IPOD CONVERTER IS COMPLEATLY MESSED UP. SOMETIME THE BAR WILL NEVER MOVE, STOP AT A RANDAM NUMBER, OR COMPLETE ITSELF. PAY NO ATTENTION TO THIS PROGRESS BAR!!!!!!
THE NUMBERS UNDER THE BAR( IN THE SPACE ACROSS FROM FRAME, FILESIZE, BITRATE, PROCESSED, ELAPSED TIME, ETC.) WILL KEEP GOING UP (ALSO PAY NO ATTENTION TO THE "REMAINING TIME" NUMBER
YOU WILL KNOW WHEN THE FILE IS DONE WHEN THE NUMBERS STOP MOVING. STOP AND MAKE SURE THE NUMBER ARENT STILL GOING UP. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT THE MOVIE IS COMPLEATED FULLY.
23) when the process is done x out Videora converter
24) Go to your start button
25) click on search- and type in the name of the movie you typed in earlier (step 21)
26) you will see a file with the name of your movie with a "QUICKTIME" simble next to it (scroll down for quicktime picture)
27) right click on the name of the movie and click "open containing folder"
28)right click on the file and click "Open With..." then select Itunes
29) wait for the movie to be added to your itunes library

Use imageshack.us and it will automatically resize to message board size.
I did use it. It said the image was too big so when i went to resize it past a certain point (which was still to big for imageshack) the file would not save.

most of the time it be on the first page when you click"transcode new video".

I would do it, but my computer currently doesn't have nearly enough space to put an entire movie on it. However it works nicely in converting shory video clips and such.
And this "tutorial" is nearly the exact same as here: http://www.videora.com/en-us/Converter/guides.html
Not that it matters, I was just saying...
that tutorial is missing some vital information

hold your mouse over all of them and see which one is the biggest file. Usually in the VTS_02's

it dosent tell you how to set up videora, and in one part it tells you to check only "the first box", when you are really suppolsed to check the first 2 boxes

edit: problem solved
re-edit: problem not solved. some movies work and others do not(wedding crashers) i can't figure it out.
re-edit of my re-edit: i finally figured it out, but it was a pain. i had to extract the audio file, rescale it, then add it back to the movie.
