i don't think they are legal, i think someone i played had to have there cleats taken off cause of the metal, i'd just use soccer cleats

Metal spikes, like baseball spikes are illegal. Metal tips like snake-eyes wrote are legal.

Also, cleats over 1/2 inch are illegal. They sell screw-ins that are 3/4 of an inch.

really eh...the 3/4 are illegal.....that was a fav of mine on the O-line b4......
Anywas, what about rugby cleats...they are 1/2 inch metal, but they are studs, not like baseball...I doubt the ref would even notice too.....hell you could paint em black or marker them and get away with it like I did in football....

I would notice when I asked to see the bottom of your cleats during an equipment check.

Well, that depends. IIRC, under NFHS rules, there's a *ridiculous* description of the requirements for metal-tipped cleats that you'd have to be a metallurgist to check. However, a good rule of thumb is that if the official thinks the cleats are dangerous, they're not allowed in the game.
If I found a kid with marginal cleats that I thought were dangerous, I'd make him change them. If I found a kid with baseball spikes, he'd sit the 1:00 nonreleaseable equipment foul.
Under NCAA mechanics, we're no longer supposed to do a full-service equipment check between (non-halftime) periods, just a stick check, so this sort of thing is even harder to catch during the game. It is something you shoud look for before the game, if possible.

i believe what they are looking for, besides baseball cleats, are screw ins that are so worn down that there is metal exposed. dont walk on concrete with screw ins. its a great way to get a stupid ankle sprain. (as in avoidable)
