alright, your playing defense another defender gets beat....they're runnign towards cage with the ball....now theres about 8 different thigns you have to make sure you doing to properly slide, but basically dont go to early, dont go to late(to early he passes it off to late he scores), put your hands TOGETHER on your stick & smash in to his chest

stick checking, you have the poke, slap & lift as your 3 main ones, kind of self explainatory

No bottom hand. But anyways with slides from the crease just lay him out.

I dont play near the crease, I play middie. When would I get an oppertunity to lay someone out?

You see the defender running along the sideline. Your attackman is riding him but to no avail. You time your run so you're moving in a straight line and drilling him in the shoulder right out of bounds. Thats the only time I feel completely safe getting off a clean hard body check.

ground balls, hit the man from the front, and if ur behind him, lift the hell out of his bottom hand.

Also on passes, drilling him right when he catches the ball

When checking, how far can i go before getting called for slashing?

you cant swing your stick further back than ninety degrees. typically refs are pretty lenient on it, but if its obvious slashing, then you will get called.

I can add my .02 on the stick checking. The guy has to have the ball or be within 5 yards of a loose ball. When they put their head down to pick it up, knock him off he feet.

You want to accomplish one of two things. Make him drop the ball or interrupt his cradling. When you slap check, you can accomplish both. You want to knock his hand off the stick. It might knock the ball loose, and it will disrupt his cradling -he won't be able to get a good pass off, either.

When you lift check, keep your strong hand (Right for righties) at the top of the stick. He won't be able to do anything except try to get away. You can check with any part of your stick. What I do is poke or slap. I'm no speed demon, so when I get beat, I check the heck out of him.

You can hit your opponent anywhere below the head and above the waist. DON'T hit him in the back. If you can see his number, lay off. You have to keep both hands on the stick, but you can hit him with your gloved hands (together, so as not to hit him with your crosse).

As you progress, you can learn the wrap check and the icicle (may be called different things, but it accomplishes the same). They look cool if you do them right.
