Alright, with lacrosse season getting near, i have started running (for about the past month). But recently, when i go running, about a half mile into the run, and my side is just in pain. The pain is located right next to my peck, what feels to be inbetween two ribs. At first when i got it, i thought it would go away, so i kept running, but soon, it became unbearable, Even walking. But after some rest, it goes away. What is this? Its starting to bother me, because it happens everytime i run now.

now this may seem dumb but my very first question would be what type of liquids are you drinking?cause chugging down sodas before a run to get rid of that cotton mouth is not a good idea, those cramps are killer, be sure to drink lots of water & do whatever else it is your supposed to do to keep from gettin other types of cramps(other then water cramps i wouldnt know what to tell you)

I always related the term cotton mouth with something else..

same happens to me when i first start cnditioningmits cause your body might not be used to the pace your going at right away. also drink gatorade or water or anything but soda. it also could be soreness

i don't think it has to do with my pace, its the same pace i've been doing. But i'll try the more water intake, i have been slacking for the last few weeks.

Maybe you should try strecing before you run.

i know exactly what your talking about cause i get it too. I heard someone say that it has something to do with consuming too much sugar but im not sure if they were right

if you put your hands on top of your head for a little while and breath deep those cramps go away.
Are you talking about a stitch? Because if you are, I'm pretty sure that if you exhale when your left foot hits the ground rather than when your right foot hits the ground, you won't get stitches.

bananas prevent cramps. have like 1 or 2 before a game or run you'll notice a huge difference

Yeah, jordan is right, believe it or not bananas are great for keeping hydrated. If not banana's, get a potassium supplement, because potassium is needed to stop cramping. I had the same thing, side stitches is what they were called, i started eated alot more potassium foods (milk/yogurt/banana's/whole grains/some vegetables) and trust me it helped alot. Also make sure your not eating complex carbs or drinking alot of water directly before exercising, try to make it 45 to an hour before your exercise.

If you're like most people, when you run, you exhale as your right foot hits the ground. This puts downward pressure on your liver (which lives on your right side), which then tugs at the diaphragm and creates a side stitch. The fix: Exhale as your left foot strikes the ground.

Drink lots of water. If your urine isn't clear, you're not drinking enough.

What do you consider "enough?" I drink roughly 4 liters a day and my urine is still yellow at points...

You should just be constantly drinking water. I dont' measure how much I drink, I'm just always drinking water. The general rule is that if your urine is yellow, you're dehydrated. I've heard that certain vitamins can chance the color though.

if its going to be 2 hours or less before you play then don't eat or else its easier to get them. also remember to breathe deeper and you won't get them
