there isnt much else you can do to increase upper body strength, except for body wieght exercises (pullups, chinups) and exercises using those big elastic bands. and i think those would be a step down from lifting. stick with lifting even though its tough, and not always fun, it pays in the long run.
wall sprints, pushups, pullups, curls, search

Some good things are:
- Ladder Sprints
- Slide Board (http://www.performbetter.com/detail.aspx_Q_ID_E_3747_A_rnd_E_45)
- Plyometrics
- Running the 40 yd dash with a parachute
- Speed/ Agility Ladder (http://www.performbetter.com/detail.aspx_Q_ID_E_3622_A_CategoryID_E_383)
(with the ladder run forward both feet in each square, sideways shuffle
not crossed feet, 2 footed hop, and sprint with one foot in each
square).
