I have like a zillion questions about strategy. Here a couple:
1. How do you play man down defense?
2. How do You play man up Offense?
3. On groundballs, when should you box out and when should you go for the ball?
4. What should I do on clears if im playing attack(ball on other end of the field)?
5.What shoud I do during clears if im playing middy (other teams possesion)?
6.What shoud I do during clears if Im playing attack(ball on my end of the field)?
7.What should I do during clears(My teams possession)?
These arent really strategy but:
1. I have a bad habit of raking the ball or using 1 hand to scoop instead of using 2 hans and just scooping. How can I stop this?
2. When I cradle its sorta different from how I hold it when i pass. Like when I hold it to cradle the head sorta faces me, but when I pass it faces away. Is this correct?
3. How can I improve my stick protection?

1. Man down most teams usually use 4 poles with 1 middie. They form a box with the poles and the middie acts as a stringer going where ever the ball goes while the poles play a zone.
2. Man up you usually run a 3-3-0 or a 2-4-0, or a 2-3-1. Mainly you're trying to feed it to the guys on the crease for a lay up, or get a shot from the top of the box or wings with the goalie screened. Possibly hit the attackman sneaking up from X.
3. you usually go for the grounball when you have some distance between you and your man..usually a sticklength away. Box out when you two are even up with eachother or he's right behind you.
4. On clears, you want to stick with you d-man. You want to prevent him from recieving a pass from the goalie. If you man is clearing it from the endline, shut him off of the sideline, shadow the sideline and force him to run it to the middle of the field.
5. Just bust you butt to the hole and make sure that they don't get a fast break. Never try to play defense at the midfield line, always retreat back.
6. On clears, you want to retreat back to the box, your man will follow you, once you get there quickly pop out to the wing to get a pass or pop up out of the box to get the pass. if the ball is on the other side of the field, go to the position where you set up on offense.
7. the same as 6 if you're attack. If you're playing middie, you want to seperate yourself from your man to get open for a pass. if you get the ball try to get on a fast break. if other are clearing it, try to stay open for a pass if they're man block them off.
To stop raking the ball ore one handed scoop, tape your gloves to your stick and just run around your yard scooping up the ball. Raking and one handers are just lazy.
For better stick protection, just don't hang your stick. When dodging like a roll dodge, use your back to shield the defender from your stick. You always want your body between the defender and your stick.
Hope that helped

Hope that helped
I starting getting confused when you said '3-3-0 or a 2-4-0, or a 2-3-1'.

3-3-0 Three men at the top of the box, three men above GLE, no men at X
2-4-0 Two men at the top of the box, four men above GLE, no men at X
2-3-1 Two men at the top of the box, 3 men above GLE, 1 man at X

What about my cradeling? When I cradle I hold it different from when I pass. I hold it hiher up in my fingers than when I pass. Is that wrong?

no really. When you cradle your hand should resemble a fist, with the shaft resting on the base of your pingers and top of your palm.
When passing/shooting, you shouldn't clinch the shaft with a fist and it should rest around the middle of your fingers

so your fingers are on top more on a pass right? And how do people cradele during the windup on a shot?

yea they're on top. That isn't necesarily a cradle, they just swing their head back and forth a bit so that they have a feel of where the ball is in their pocket

1. shuold I keep my stick towards the sidelines or towards the middle of the field?
2. where can I read more about lacrosse strategy?

1. The way your stick is pointed should be in relation to the defender and the situation. Whether it is towards the middle, towards the sideline, or pointed straight up in the air (one-handed cradling), you should have your body somewhat between your head and the defender when you are in tight with him/her. Obviously if you have room, it doesn't matter as much. So basically, your stick should be wherever it seems hardest to be checked in the given situation. (Keep in mind there are other defenders on the field that'll try to getcha as well!)
2. Lacrosse Instruction Tactics and Training forum! and Mark Millon's Offensive Wizardry video is nice.
