View Full Version : Is there contact allowed in Women's lacrosse?
Is there contact allowed in Women's lacrosse? What stops a player from running down the field with the ball and scoring. I've never watched a women's game before. Tha's amazing.

well women's lacrosse has always been known as the wierd version of boys lacrosse which has no contact. but actaully you'd be suprised at the amount of contact we have. i mean, sure we don't beat each other to death or poke check a player as their running down the field. basically we use our body to prevent a player from getting the chance to manuver around on the field. for example. when attack's setting up, and they start cutting in, defenders will actually use their bottom hand, and hold it against the attack women's back and push that attack women out of the cruicial shooting area. we're only allowed to check each other sticks, and that's how we get the image that there's no contact, but once the attack sets up, there's a lot of pushing and nudging around to get to the space they wanna be in. i personally think watching women's lacrosse is fun, but only when i know the people playing on the team. now boys on the other hand.... i couldn't watch them 24/7!! so much poundings!

There is most definitly contact in women's lacrosse, just a different contact than men's. Laxbabe kind of started to talk about it. I see the most contact in the defensive ends, as is normal, when girls are putting pressure on ball.

There is so much more contact at college level then anywhere else. Most of the refs let a lot of things go at the college level as apposed to high school. There is a lot more pushing and the checks are rougher at higher levels. It is a lot different than the mens game...but to answer your question about someone running down with the ball; in high school often times you will see someone just run down the field and throw the ball in the net. When you get into the top levels of play though if someone is coming full speed down the field a defender will usually put pressure on them and force them outside where they have no shot. It is really interesting to watch...Mark you should definitely watch a game soon!

I see that in high school too though...I've met some people who think High School lacrosse is not very contact oriented. Maybe its just where I've grown up and where I've played but I feel there is a fair amount of contact in a good women's HS game. If you go see some tourney lax its all over the place. I agree that College lax is more agressive though.

Yeah I agree that at least in tournaments there is a good amount of contact. It just seems that the refs won't let things go in high school games that they do in college. I just know that when I started playing college I was not used to the amount of contact that went on, it's a lot of fun though...don't get me wrong! Pretty much though, in my opinion after a year of division one lax...its a completely different game when it comes to the issue of contact.

Haha. Well if you "give" when you catch you should be fine. To beginners that is what you should teach. As you get older though, the more experience players tend to just go directly into a cradle as they catch the ball, which basically keeps the ball in the pocket and removes needing to "give."

You can have contact and I love the skirts. Please dont be negative. Obviously the people who are in this forums do like womens lacrosse and might not share the same opinion as you so, again, please keep negative thoughts to yourself.
