Could someone please tell me what type of mesh John Grant has in his stick in the the newest issue of Inside Lacrosse. I am not talking about stiffness or size, I am talking about brand.

volume 9 issue 9.. december 2005...

hmm. looks like the STX profile, with regular hard mesh and four hockey lace shooters.. nothing special or out of the ordinary.. just strung and broken in nicely

Yeah it is in the December issue. I looks like it has a nice braid pattern. It seems familiar but I just can't place it.

My buddy's cousin is Pat O'toole and he always gets to go in the dressing room with the k-hawks. He's become friends with Grant and after the Heritage Cup game last year Grant gave him his stick. It was a perfectly pinched profile with what looked like a prototype howitzer...because it was all black with no writing and didn't even have the harrow grip on it.
The profile had a huge ball stop in it so the ball didn't come out when it was held upside down and it was a really nicely worked in profile. There were 4 shooting strings. The sidewall stringing was something I've never seen before but it was really nice. My buddy is retarted when it comes to stringing so when one of the sidewall strings broke, he would get me to string a new one in it so I really got to take a good look at it. I even stole it from him for a couple weeks and used it at the NDP tournament in syracuse this year. I made all-tournament team with it so it mustve been good.
After the mesh jjust got too beat up to use, we bought some normal jimalax hard mesh and I strung it in the head, copying the exact way Johnny strung it. It turned out pretty much the exact same.

LaxJax_13
01-23-2006, 07:15 PM
Even if it is not his game stick, I still want to know what type of mesh it is. We can infer that it is 10D hard mesh, but what brand?

mustang_lax
01-23-2006, 07:16 PM
you can't tell by just looking at the mesh. Plus it doesn't matter....10D is 10D

Soft, Hard, American, Fresh, Catapultion, Rail, there are countless varieties of 10d available. That's like saying, oh Cola is Cola.

Oh yeah, If I had to guess I'd say incredibly well strung and stretched hard mesh.

redbirds07
01-23-2006, 07:57 PM
it is his game stick, and he uses the medium hard mesh well worked in, and the head is the profile. i got a good source for that info.

LaxJax_13
01-23-2006, 08:06 PM
Do you know what brand of mesh that is redbird07? After looking at the mesh and comparing it to other company photos, I think it is either Brine or Gait mesh. But, I could be wrong.

iTaylor_686
01-23-2006, 08:13 PM
John Grant uses a Stx Profile as his game stick (obviously he cant for MLL) but he uses a Stx Profile with a Harrow box shaft and Stx box mesh strung for NLL. The mesh in the photo is probably the new harrow mesh since he is one of the big dogs at harrow and that mesh looks exactly like harrow mesh. (I compared to my own)

nemesislax
01-23-2006, 08:17 PM
he works for harrow and the stick in the pic is a harrow
he uses a profile and the head in the pic is a profile
and i've seen his game stick and the pocket looks identical...except the one i have held did not have the top string done like that. It was just one of those blue with black and white speckle strings that are given in brine mesh kits. It was only strung through a hole once too....not the way we usually do it. It could be brine mesh if it had that top string...not really sure...its really nice mesh though

I think I-Taylors right, I was looking at my harrow mesh and it looks very similiar and it has the the exact same shooting string design.

SWIMMOVE
01-24-2006, 02:40 PM
his sidewalls like look like there doubble sidewalls...

LaxJax_13
01-24-2006, 02:44 PM
No the sidwalls are not strung double, they just connect the mesh to the head the same way exept into the sidwall holes.

SWIMMOVE
01-24-2006, 02:48 PM
yea i thought that at first too but he never doubbles up the any where on the entire head so i was wondering how he got sutch a deep pocket... and iv never really look at a profile... but where the ties it to the head looks closere together than i would have guessed the holes were

LaxJax_13
01-24-2006, 03:06 PM
I think his pocket is that deep because harrow mesh stretches out a whole bunch, because of the way he strung his side walls, and because he worked it in really well.
I was able to get a pocket just as deep when I had catapultion.

nemesislax
01-24-2006, 03:32 PM
he gets such a deep pocket because between 3 sidewall holes near the top of the head he manages to squeeze 6 diamonds in there....that gives him a nice deep high pocket. It's hard to explain but its like Orange's giant mesh tutorial where he puts 2 diamonds between each sidewall hole. Grant just adds another diamond and he does this twice in a row near the top for that deep high pocket. The rest of the pocket is strung somewhat tight to keep the ball in that high spot and since he has the huuuge ballstop, the ball won't roll out that way.

LaxBoy92
01-24-2006, 03:36 PM
How can you even tell his pocket is deep by the angle of that photo?

rellgood
02-16-2006, 06:29 PM
i will end all frsutrations the mesh he uses is not hard mesh at all it is debeer soft mesh. where i work has a bit of it in stock and it holds the ball amazing even when it is broken in it rarely begins to hook. i swear by my life that it is debeer soft.

John Grant Jr was at my high schools winter lacrosse camp and when i was close enough to look at his stick it looked like very broken in hard mesh from warrior seemed more like a 1223221 diamond per hole and it was his game stick pinched profile, purple on bottom number 24 in white on the throat and K-HAWKS in white also with a stx zirconium shaft. I figured it was warrior mesh cause it looked like the exact stuff in my stick.

ooo a couple years ago? now the question is, after you met him, have you been in contact with him? or is it whenever you come up and talk to him he will say "who are you agian?"

just because you meet someone, get their signature, chat with them for a few mins. does not mean you are their friend. if that was the case, id be "friends" with alot of movie stars.

well i have no idea what mesh that was and whatever picture your even talking about. But all i can say is John grant Jr can string a stick better than anyone on this site, and im not talking about all the crazy ones. He can put a stick together in maybe 2 minutes and have it game ready. its unbelivable hell warm up not like whats going on and in between the time it takes the coach to give his speech have all that ripped out and a new bag in there. so i doubt he uses any certain "brand" of mesh hes probly had it all in there

CPlax19
06-25-2007, 03:09 PM
I was just with john grant about 1/2 hour ago, im doing a camp that hes at, and i asked if i could look at his stick. Its a pinched cluth, the mesh seemed like eather semi hard or really broken in hard, i wouldnt know where its from because im not that much of the mesh expert, but it was nice mesh. He had a high pocket, i looked at the sidewalls and if i had a cluth i could string one almost exactly a like. He had 4 straights in it.

That's pushing it. I believe you know a lot of pros, but I do as well. I only constantly talk to Shannon, but I know a few, upwards teens now. And I'll know the entire Machine/Outlaw team by nextweekend, travel team is staying in the same hotel as them, be jealous? Not to mention lockerroom and whatnot. My coach knows everyone.

Yeah, I'm a little excited.
