I have some quetiions about shooting:
1.What's a crank shot
2. How do you do the weird cradle as you wind up thing and should i learn to do it?
3. Do you need a lot of whip to shoot underhand?

I believe that a crankshot is when you put both hands on the bottom of your stick and crank a shot. (correct me if I'm wrong) As for the wierd cradle thing, I don't know what you mean, and I'm not sure about the whip factor w/ underhand shots either.

2. Im guessing you're talking about twirling, so.... NO. Its a bad habit.
3. No you do not need a lot of whip, what you need is right form!

my impression is that a crank shot is a full speed side or under hand shot
underhands are benificial because the shot rises significantly making it hard for the goalie to save
and no you dont need alot of whip although it can help at first
Yes you don't need whip on an underhand shot. And I just cradle regularly behind the back of my head when I wind up. I only do one cradle and let it rip. Forget the multiple windup cradles.

See the Offensive Wizardry video
1) A crank shot is the "time and room" shot
2) The weird cradle helps keep the ball in the pocket, not rolling around if you have that problem. You don't want this habit either. The more you play with your stick (stick tricks, cradling underhand, behind the back, the better your feel will be). We don't think about this cradle, it happens due to experience.
3) It's not necessary. I start players with no whip, and they move into whip. Shooting can be harder without whip, but feeding/passing will come more naturally. Very few shots end up being crank shots in most offenses. A quick release, with accurate placement is all it takes. Of the 100+ goals I scored in college playing attack & middie, less than 10 were crank shots. I can actually remember each one, because they're fun. I can't remember how many pipes I hit, and I wish I could have had 20 more goals than playing 3 bar with a goalie.

And what is the proper form? Where can I find It?

For #2, do you mean the thing where you just do the big exaggerated cradle behind your head to draw a defender? The middies on my team do that all the time. Just come down the middle looking like your about to shoot and then pass and cut.

by cradeling underhand i think he means cradeling with the stick virtical and the head near the ground. cradeling behind the back could mean teh way mikey powell does it after his 'jump-thu' trick on the trickology section of mikeypowell.com
