I'm 16 and a sophomore about to start preseason. I'm definately going to be concentrating alot on faceoffs this year and wondered if anyone out there knew of any drills or excersizes i could do on my own to prepare somewhat. Or if you could link me to some pages about techniques or anything that would be great.

get 2 of your buddys, one says down, set, go. the other one faces against you. or tape record yourself with a whistle and whistle but dont do it on a patern, and then when you hear the whistle you clamp or jump or whatever. make sure you try everything, not just clamping. look in the instruction tactics and training, georgiamiddie made a great tutorial of the basic moves.

Yeah that thing by cantabene is pretty much a practice bible for facing off. What i do is just set the ball up and have a whistle recorded to go off every 10 seconds or something like that and whenever i hear the whistle i clamp down on the ball. That really helps on quickness and stuff.
Also, the best thing you can do is practice every move you have, it doesn't matter if you don't have anyone infront of you. Really focus on making every move perfect, theres always room for improvement. I'm 17 and am being recruited by Army, UMBC, Drexel, and others just to faceoff and i still work on my simple clamp and jam every day.

Jump back and forth over the ball as fast as possible for 1 minute at a time. It keeps your reflexes sharp, makes you keep virtually no weight on your hands, and improves your jump tremendously.

Well, the jumping over the ball is something we do religiously with our players. We do have a few clampers, and use a CD to practice on their own. One player in praticular wanted more PT a few years back, and decided he was a clamper, no one would beat him. He opened his dorm room door, and placed the ball against the wall, with his stick in the opening. He then practiced clamping against the wall, mainly working on power. He then taped the ball to its spot, with a ton of tape, and worked at it that way.
I was skeptical, but he became an incredible fogo, and the extra practice alone really calmed him down during games. We won a few more games because of extra possessions we got on his faceoffs.

This sounds like an interesting technique, but I'm not exactly sure if I understand whats going on here, like where the ball is, where the stick is...what motions he's doing, how it helps, etc. Could you clarify for me?
Thanks man

i've done a search, a previous thread says there are loads of face off drill threads on the forums. From my search there are hardly any with drills.
So do you have and more drills, or say a good 15-30minute face off routine?

Hey guys, I started facing off for my team and I can tell you one thing that definitely helped me a lot in the off season was weight lifting, mainly focusing on my wrists. Get some dumbbells and do wrist curls until you feel like your hands are about to fall off. When your forearms are built and strong, you are exceptionally quick on the whistle and you can wrench the ball away if you get tangled up against another guy's stick.

Check the face off megathread. Theres videos of each move and drills that you can practice with. Also theres a thread specifically on heads that work good for faceoffs.

I went to Hobart, and one of their guys was the face off guy for Team Ireland.
He said a great drill was to clamp and then quickly, while keeping your stick down, go a complete circle around the ball while keeping low.
