Just practice your shot and use correct form.

working out is the absolute best way, theres an article somewhere on www.e-lacrosse.com about the specific muscles used in shooting, but just lift a lot, iv been lifting for the entire offseason, my shot used to be low 70's now i dont know what it is but i can feel a huge difference, im ripping shots... and the grlz think i look great :agree:
edit: if you do workout probab ly the best thing you can do is your forearms, because they are often neglected, do wrist curles they work your whole forearm, and your wrists which very few people work and are extremly importnat in shooting
edit again: if you do decide to buy a training stick dont spend tons of money on a training thing, just get like an alloy 2000 or some other cheap stick and fill it with sand or pennies, you can get enough pennies to fill a shaft from like 3 or 4 dollars

Get a little hand flexer and just do it in school everyday. My forearms have gotten way beastier because of it. Also, more than half of your shot speed comes from good technique. Find someone on your team who has a wicked shot and ask them about proper form. Or like ray said, i believe there was an article on e-lacrosse just recently about shot speed...

yah i forgot about that, like fossile said, captins of crush are a great way to train your forearms, i usually do them on days im not lifting, their really hard and really good for you

Work with your core, your hands are only so much of your shot. Yes its important, and yes your hands need to be strong and quick, but your power comes from your core. Shoulder & hip turn is where the power is at... Just like Golf or Baseball, your entire body has to be into it.
Work your core, your arms and wrists, your back, and your shoulders to get a strong swing. Also, use correct form-depending on what kind of shot you're taking, remember to get power from your legs, hips, and shoulders.

you could use a stress ball... or there are these ones that have handles and metal coils in the middle and you pull them together, it works really well.

aside from strength training, which will help your shot a little, there are key fundamentals involved in shooting faster.
if you are about 10 to 12 yards away from the goal:
1) you need a good base (your feet a little wider than shoulder width apart)
2) make sure you get your hands high and away from your body
3) make sure you are standing perpendicular to the goal.. do not open your body up, or close it (just think of the letter T.. .the top of the T is the goal line, your feet should be on the lower part of the T)
4) step into your shot (skip steps)
5) coil your hips and shoulders
6) snap your wrists over about 3/4 of the way through the shot
*remember, you have to use your legs, hips, shoulders, and arms.. your arms are pretty much along for the ride.. your big coil and strong base will give you a lot of power.. then your wrist snap just adds a bit of power to your shot and accuracy
If you are in close on the goal:
some fundamentals are the exact opposite of a "crank" shot..^^
1) you will want to keep your hands and arms in a bit closer to your body (to protect your stick)
2) you won't need a big hip and shoulder rotation (you won't want to bring your stick back behind you; your stick will be unprotected)
3) since you can't skip step and get a wide base cause of all the traffic, you won't be able to use your base for too much power
4) unlike a shot around 10 to 12 yards, your arms and wrists will provide the power
5) don't wind up.. just snap your wrists over and extend your arms forward to get power..
* in close, accuracy is more important than power, so try to place the ball instead of ripping it through the goalie..
**** there is also a whole different set of skills necessary to the shot on the run, but they are very difficult to learn.. Let me know if you want some details behind that skill set..

improving your form can help you shoot faster but if you lift weights the muscles you wanna work out to really improve your shot are the biceps triceps forearm deltoid trapezoids latisms and obliques

Deadlifts, squats, bench press. Particularly deadlifts. They work your core (low back especially) like crazy. I've noticed much better shot speed since doing deadlifts. I wish I had've started them earlier.
