Hey, I play attack. Long read but my question is at the bottom, plz read.
So, I was hanging out with my friend today in my yard and were just throwing the ball around and taking some shots in my goal. My friend plays goalie and just picked up defence recently and decided to play longpole D as well as goalie. We decided to do some one on ones. Just sticks and gloves so nothing really serious. I wasn't gonna shoot seeing that we didn't have pads on. My friend is a big kid. He is like 6'2" (maybe taller) with a lot of upper body strength (he can bench 270 pounds).
Now their was not really a lot of room in my yard so he does have the advantage here. So the first one on one I pretty much just outrun him.
So I say, "You should push more with your body instead of trying to lay checks on my stick". So he takes my advice and the second one on one I had a lot more trouble. Everytime he saw me start to roll he would just push me like a good 2-3 feet away from him. I am like 6'0", 160 pounds so he is a lot bigger. Anyway, even though their is a lot mroe room on the lacrosse field to dodge I would still like some advice on my question.

How do you dodge past or gain suffecient space between a defender that is obviously bigger and stronger than you and can easily push you?

Get some space between you and him and then rush at him and dodge. Roll, or split dodge, or something. If he tries to push you he should get a foul (I think).

Yeah, also get him offbalance so that he can't catch up to you once you roll or face/split, or whatever floats you boat.

Use speed dodges- split dodges and a few others, essentialy fakes, that will use the defender's lack of speed and agility to a disadvantage.

The bigger (in most cases) the slower. Just make 3 o4 four quick cuts and then go by him!!

Try to time a roll right as he tries to push you away. That should get him off balance.

or you get space and run as fast and as far away from him as you can

ya really just use speed...like moves like the split dodge or if you want to get mroe complicated try something like the finalizer (to sum up the finalizer run back & forth behind cage basically)

use alot of fake dodges on him.. example. run straight at him with all speed and then roll left and then stop and fake right to make it really obvious and then when he knows your gonig right, roll left. alot of fakes on him will set him offbalance cuz he is so slow and big.

Yeah use space and speed to get by him don't like, try and bull dodge him. It's easy with big slow guys. The hardest defenders are big fast guys, like my friend who goes to a football speed clinic. You have to be faster.

i think you have to push him back so then he is forced to come at you. So you should rush him, stop, walk back, and when he moves towards you try to split dodge or something.

What you are trying to do when dodging a defender is to get your hands and arms free for a shot or pass. a common misconception that many lacrosse players have is that your goal when dodging is to blow by your defender and leave him in the dust.. this is simply false..

All these suggestions are right but also a well performed rocker step should get him off balance, especially if u roll a lot normally.
