Great to see Darren Nicholas drafted to the Long Island Lizards. Well Done Darren.

I think the players that will be playing there this year (Darren, JT and Inge) will open the door to more Australian's. The Americans may look to Australia to recruit as we are an untapped tallent pool. What effect do you think this will have on Australian Lax if it happens more and more? Do you think it will drain Aus of its lax stars and will the domestic comp suffer?...Or do you think it will inspire juniors and younger seniors to aspire to play pro and therfore strengthening the domestic comp?

Great to see Darren getting a shot in the US he is fantastic player and should do well in the MLL.
I though San Francisco were looking to sign him but Long Island must have got in first.

Yeah congrats to Reggie.
I too heard that he was heading too the SF Dragons. This means that a substantial part of the core of Australia's team is now in the MLL. Wether he will get game time is another matter but he will not get pushed around.
I think this is especially big for Darren as he is also a father and husband. Good luck to him. he deserves it and i hope he kicks some behind.

yeh, way to go reggin. few aussies work as hard on and off the track as him, and he deserves the rewards he gets. now, if he can just learn to catch and throw..... ;-)
i think the fact that our elite players are 'going places' will benefit grass roots lacrosse. it will inspire juniors to keep playing and persue higher honours. its not as if there will be a mass exodus overseas > very few other aussie players would be able to compete for places on MLL lists at this stage.
i heard that cannon is trialling with the next expansion team, the nex mexico borderhoppers. any truth in this one cannon?

Well I wish him well. I give it 20-30 years before we have a steady flow of top-notch Aussie laxers.

well it will diminish the quality of the league if the best players go to play in the MLL but that's not a bad thing... it will only strengthen the quality of the aussie team, just like all the aussie soccer players in the european leagues have improved the standard of the socceroos out of sight
it will be something for junior players to aspire to, to know that there is a pro league and that there are guys from their own clubs who made it
if in the years to come there are 20 or so aussies in the MLL, it may even come to be, like the socceroos, the national team has a foreign base, which gives a lot more opportunities to play regular international games... i think if they had the opportunity to play annual games against the likes of the USA and Canada it will only benefit us

u have to remember that this is a world games year.. and of course, many are trying to get some experience in the MLL to help them in the world games.... just look at how many canadians entered the MLL draft, along with japanese, english, aussies, etc.. it's all about getting experience for the games..

i think luke oz is right. If Lacrosse australia could start to organise more exhibition matches not only against america and canada but other smaller countries or possibly going to america to play exhibition games against MLL and having more colleges tour australia it would not only help by giving the aussie team more international/ high level match experience but also make team selection a continuing process forcing players to train harder to keep there spot in the team.

No, they aren't rich by any means but if there are enough Aussies based in the US to form a squad, and assuming they are more or less the best Aussie lacrosse players we have, then it wouldn't cost so much to have this squad play regular high-quality games against the likes of college, MLL or other national teams, than it would to send them over from Australia
