For a project my partner and I (motolax415) are going to try do do a rap about the secession of the southern states. Should we try to do it "live" and risk screwing it up? or try to record it, and just play it to the class?

Also, what program do you recomend for recording?

If something like this has already been discussed, feel free to close it.

My friend did a live rap about the Crusades last year. Not too pretty.

You can record it on sound recorder, but it only records things up to 1 minute long. Windows movie maker might be a better choice.

Dude, just do it live. Even if you screw up, the teacher will think it's hilarious, you will be the talk of the day, and everyone won't be able to stop laughing. Or that's how it was when my friend and I did a rap about ancient Sparta.

Clay remember Coleman did a rap about the renaisance and that was really funny. The entire class was laughing. Definately do it live.

haha last year I did a rap on the Great Depression.

You should probably record it because in class you'll probably start laughing or something and lose points.

Don't do it live. Just record it.

Live backwards = Evil.

That's how it happens at my school. Do it live.

we did the exact same thing, from the south's point of view to the tune of Can't Touch This by MC Hammer. Get ready to laugh.

Can't touch this (x2)

the the the the the south can hit you, so hard 0:13
That's cuz Robert E. Lee's in charge
Thank God, for blessin Lee, with a mind for war, he's the man to beat
It feels good, when you know you're gunna win
Doesn't matter if we're fightin' our kin
Lincoln, doesn't care for us much
But we're the army uh you can't touch

TALKING: We told the Union you can't touch this
Yeah we're still fightin' and you know you can't touch this
Look in my eyes man, you can't touch this
Just let us win the war uh uh you can't touch this

We don't have the Colt guns 0:43
Union's got it all but soon enough they will be done
So move, north to antietam
In Maryland, we will defeat 'em
When we're marching, hold on, do the rebel yell
to let em know that we are strong, its like that, like that
Mission to freedom, so pull on back
By now you know, we're too much
We've got an army, the union can't touch

TALKING: I told you the Union got nothin on us
yeeeeeeeeeee
yeeeeeeeeeee

Let us keep our slaves... we'll kill for em 1:13
Make no mistake we're in it for the long run
Now
You know
Should've compromised, made a Quid Pro Quo
So stop and and give in
Can't top this country that Davis is beginnin'
So get
Out of the way
Doing our rebel yell, we can't hear what you say
We are
Legit
Were getting to the point where you might as well quit

TALKING: Better watch out Lincoln,
You can't touch this (oh oh oh oh oh oh oh) x2
Break it down
(oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh) x4
Stop
Hammer time

Go with the flow, I said 1:56
If you're not gone soon
then you gunna end up dead
So wave, your rifle in the air
Blast through the front line
Lincoln will despair
Please, stop changing generals
McLellan or Grant?
Rememberin' is a handful
Bull, Run was no fluke
Thats the first time of many, that you will lose
bump bump bump yeeeee

I hope Abe doesn't think, this war will last 90 days 3:23
We've got an ironclad thats fighting for the grays
Now why would we want to back off now
Confidence is high and we'll make em say "wow"
We fight so very hard, from Sumpter till Richmond
Its the south go south yeah south hey south and the union won't have its day

That took up a LOT of space. Sorry.

Anyone else find a rap about the seccession of the South ironic?

My opinion: Record it as back up, in case you guys get stage fright, but doing it live would garner major brownie points with your classmates and professor, so.

What professor at what university would accept a "rap" about secession as a valid college assignment? Just curious...

I actually meant to type "teacher", as in, high school teacher. And you never know... one of my professors talked openly (and encouraged conversation about) her experiences with drugs in college.

Yeah...one of my professors used to write for Rollng Stone and hung out with Hunter S. Thompson. And he was one of the hardest, most elitist, and pretentious person I've ever had to work for. He said my paper on Derrida was "one of the best he's read in 10 years"--on the back it just says...B+

If he's letting you do a rap for a history project, then trust me, you have no clue what "hard" is.

I recommend Garage Band if you have a mac for the recording - It's pretty straightforward and easy...
