Who watched it, what did you think?

I think he made some good points and addressed some key things, he probally could have been more clear on some issues, but not a bad speech. I liked his part about energy, and how we are addicted to Oil

He did address some key points, and he validated some of his views. All in all I think he did a great job.

Who else heard when he said "2 of my fathers favorite people turn 60 this year. Me and President Clinton. Hilarys face was so funny.

He has good speechwriters--he really does. It's just a little scary when he's doing press conferences and it's so painstakingly obvious when their speech runs out and he starts "freestyling." it's actually quite hilarious sometimes, since it's so easy to see.

i was confused about the energy part of his speech..he said we are so dependant on the middle east and their oil, howevver i saw this program on pbs or something and it was talking about oil in canada. It wasnt drilling but oil in the sand that they dig up, boil, and then refine, they even say the oil is better. Im not really into politics or following these things so im not 100%. But It said they estimate the section contains oil to be in the trillion of gallons. The area is right up near the ice caps i think.. Does anyone know what i am talking about? Please clarify. I apologize if i dont make any sense!

Yes, there is a ton of oil in Canada, but the problem is that it is a lot more difficult to refine that sandy oil-sludge than regular crude. It's there, we just need to find more economical ways of refining it.

I think Bush had a solid speech, but it sounded to me more of a "we're staying the course" kind of speech than talking about how he's going to make things better/do things differently to accomplish our goals. I'm not saying that was neccesarily a bad choice, it was strong, but I don't think it is going to have as much of an impact on public opinion as it could have. I mean, presidents always promise stuff in their state of the union addresses that they don't deliver on. Perhaps he could have thrown the leftys a few bones and get some people on his side.

Yes Alberta and Saskatchewan's north have more oil than Saudi. It is harder to refine although Shell is building the 2nd upgrader and plan on a third by my house. As are many other Oil companies

Isn't it a No Child Left Behind, just for highschool?

And havn't they been cutting financial aid programs as well?

I thought the speach was delivered well; he's deffinitely improving on his public speaking. But it made me hate him even more. I didn't realize how strongly he was against experimenting on human embryos, and bringing God into the mix just made me even madder.

I missed it...I was at a lacrosse dinner...
Even if I didn't have anything to do...I'd rather lick Grand Central Station clean with my tongue than watch/listen to Bush...
He makes me embarrassed to be an American sometimes...well...many times...
I'll just wait and watch the comedians and humor pages for clips of the speech as I am sure there were at least a few bloopers...

I think MadTV's Frank Caliendo said it best when he questioned why Bush's expression is always one of looking directly at the sun

I chose not to watch it. I knew I probably wouldn't like my reaction and didn't want to go to bed angry, figuring I'd read articles in the morning to catch up.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/11110276/page/2/

There is one quote in particular from this one that made me chuckle:“The president said tonight that Americans were addicted to oil but this administration is addicted to oil companies, and we won’t achieve energy independence until the administration breaks its addiction,”

Other than that, as it was stated above, I'm not surprised he came off as more articulate than usual, so long as he sticks to the speech he was given. After that, he should be tapped on the the shoulder and the cameras should be motioned for a tv timeout to avoid screwing up the rest.

Seriously, the Bush-bashing has gotten old. I mean we know that you don't like Mush and that he is dumb, but come one WE KNOW ALREADY! Face it if Bush was as bad as some of you are saying, wouldn't he be impeached? Yes.

Yep...bye bye financial aid...or atleast some of it. I would love to get into this debate, but I dont want to put my effort into something that isnt worth it. There are obvious flaws.....does anyone remember when the administration stated that alternative fuel resources wasnt in the nations best interest?.......jumping on a different story now isnt he....It takes alot to Impeach a president....

And he wouldn't have been reelected. The same people bashing Bush now were bashing him before he was reelected, but it didn't really seem to take much of an effect on the outcome. People just need to realize that Bush isn't as bad as they wish he was, and they need to stop creating the fake persona just to have something to argue about.

Furthermore, all of the bashing of his articulation in previous speeches is nonsensical because it's more or less a non-issue. The ability to give captivating speeches without flaw is not exactly a requirement to run the country, more like to persuade the country (ala Hitler.) Plus, Bush is following a tough act - Clinton - who happened to be an excellent orator. If any of you watched the interview with Matt Lauer (which was not a prewritten speech but instead just a conversation between the two men on the campaign bus) you would have realized that Bush does better when he's not giving a speech and is just talking, despite what most of you say. Plus, the errors in his speeches weren't horrid and most politicians make them (ex. Kerry) - they are only publicized so much because it's something the left can use against him. (Except, most of the time it isn't politicians of the left that make fun of him for it, instead it's rebelious teenagers who think liberalism is cool.) The man isn't an idiot, look at his education and bloodline. He was educated at Andover, one of the best highschools in the world, and then matriculated to Yale, one of the best higher institutions in the world. I know somebody is going to say he just got in there because of daddy, but the important fact is that he attended the schools and attended classes, thus receiving the education regardless.

Uhh.....no. Republicans control the House.

If it were a Democratic House, he would have been impeached already; albeit I don't think he would have been convicted.

i didn't watch it due to the fact that i think that the state of the union is pretty much useless, but i did read it in the post today, and guess what... he said absolutly nothing new. All i saw on the page was blah blah blah,

1) we're getting out of iraq- like we havnt heard that one before
2) energy- BS bush and his big oil buddies want nothing to do with alternative energy
3) i loved how he minimized his failure to pass his horrible social security reform
4) trying to justify unconstitutional spying.... its well unconstitutional
5) theres more, just to lazy to remember

so pretty much he was just telling us what we want to hear, which is what happens at every state of the union, which is why i think its useless

No considering the amount of House members it takes to bring articles of impeachment. Should he not be criticized?
