Those fancy afterburner shafts which used to cost $90 are now down to $25 at sportsherway.com

It appears that the shaft didn't do too well on the market due to various reasons and now can be had quite cheaply. I've used one before, they're nice.

At last glance, they had 10 left in stock...well, 9 now, since I ordered one for myself.

Get'em while they're hot!(sorry, lame pun)

It's such a cliche, but I would say that they were ahead of their time.

Think about it. Look at the craze in wlax regarding composite and grippy shafts. The afterburner came out years before the Title IX/Matrix/Heroine/Velvet, and I'd say it's lighter than some of them. The teardrop shape is fairly popular now, which the afterburner offered years before (but yes, deBeer probably did have it first).

For $25, it's not a bad option, but theres probably shafts out there with a much nicer feeling grip, and I'm not aware of the shafts durability.

Yea.. I felt it and it did seem pretty nice, but I was trying to go cheap this time around with an upgrade on the shaft planned later. When I do upgrade it will most likely be a much better shaft.

I like the afterburner a lot, my friend uses it with a tempest and it seems to work nicely. I am considering one for my tempest or impulse.

I played with the Afterburner at a lacrosse camp a few years ago when it first came out and loved it. I knew alot of other people who loved it too, but thought the price was ridiculous so they didn't buy it. I have to say that is a great price and I may have to consider getting another shaft, right now I'm pretty happy with my Axe though.

If STX kept the Afterburner at a more reasonable price, I think they would have been more popular, but since the price was a bit outrageous I think people immediately looked it over.

It's not actually that grippy, but it does have a textured feel. Very lightweight, and it seems durable. At least it stood up to a least one season of some pretty intense play. I don't own one, a friend does though.

If you're not into Afterburners, you could always go with Klytes for around $25 as well. I actually managed to get one or two $13 shipped each when they started them at $1 on eBay. It's a pretty good deal either way, no matter which shaft you go for, $25 for a high end shaft is a great deal. Now if only I played field so I didn't have a whole lot of sticks lying around.

The grip/feel of the afterburner is not too different than other shafts. It's slick enough to be similar to a regular shaft, but at the same time it's a carbon fiber/composite mix (I believe it's a mix...), so it has a honeycomb like texture to it which some like. If you find it's lacking texture or feel...slap some tape on there or wear some thin gloves to enhance your grip. On a clear day with no rain...you should have no problems. Cold days are no problem either. The only issue I can see is if you play the majority of your games in the rain, the shaft can become slick....but that's the same case with just about any shaft you buy, except maybe some of the harrow ones. On the flip side, those fancy harrow shafts usually lose their tacky feel after about a seasons worth of play due to friction and checks...so unless you feel like dropping upwards of a bill each season, it's not much of a benefit if you ask me.

The only down side to the afterburner is it only comes in black/blue so those of you that like funky colors and all that jazz won't like it. My opinion on that is who cares if you have an electric pink shaft if you can't play well with it. A good player is more concerned with gear that will work for them and playing well and succeeding rather than looking cool on the field.

Actually, I don't know your screen name, but I do know your name (check private message). Your friend was using a mac and had your IM listed as your real name, not your screen name. I recognized it from that...unless I'm way off and don't know your name..which isn't the case.

Also, I'd ask you what you were doing up posting that late?!? I was finishing up studying for a test and hopped on the computer to check the forums before I crashed...what were you doing?
