Does anyone like this band? I bought their DVD "Live at the Quick" and it has changed the way I listen to music. In the DVD along with the flecktones were a few other unearthly insane musicians, playing instruments like oboes and clarinets, along with steel drums (sound really tropical) (2 of them) http://www.ajajamusic.com/pan.jpg
Bongos and other stuff. It was the most amazing thing I have ever seen in my life. One example is the whole band jams and it's liek they call two of the musicians out and they "chase" each other note wise while playing. For example one guy would play something, and the other guy standing in front of him would play it in a lower key and tone like it was catching up while the leader simultaniously plays another piece running away again while the other follows... ALL improvised. A guy with the bongos also managed to make them sound like he was "running" from a musician too. Bela Fleck (electric banjo and guitar) and Victor Wooten are out of this world.
You have to listen to them or watch their dvd to understand. Wheeeeeeew!

I've seen them in concert and have that DVD along with a couple of CD's. I met Bela Fleck in Nashville airport, he was sitting on the floor playing his banjo with noone around him. He told me to go out and get the DVD and I've loved them ever since. AMAZING musicians, Victor Wooten's (bass player) solo CD's are absolutely AMAZING, he is easily the best bass player in the world. Pick up their Greatest hits CD's and try Victor Wooten's "A Show Of Hands" CD, both are great.
EDIT--In fact, I'm listening to them right now, The Sinister Minister... :worship:

I've seen the Flecktones five times, and I've seen Bela individually three times. Each time is a whole different experience. Anybody who is open minded and can appreciate musical virtuosity should undoubtedly check them out. They really are just a lot of fun.

Thery're pretty much the best at what they do, aren't they? They show up in northern Virginia at the Birchmere (http://www.birchmere.com/) from time to time, but I've never seen them. I have one of their albums, but I can't recall which one.

In one song future man plays the drums with his drumtar and sings a song with the most perfect voice, The tempo of the voice goes faster to slower to faster like everything is stuck on a tempo slidiing bar, in the meantime the band plays along matches his tempo and th enotes he sings all flawlessly. I creamed my pants 7 times. It is soo awesome being humiliated by their insane talent.

Yeah, they're good. No one doubts that.
Still, that doesn't give them an excuse to make mastubatory music. I can't stand it when you get more than one virtuoso on one stage. It turns into "Let's see who can play the craziest *&#$!" and it kind of loses a lot of musicality.
I have their CD's, so I'm not just blindly complaining...
I mean, they have songs where the drummer and bassist play in different time signatures so that they overlap every 4 measures. Come on. No one really needs to hear you do that.
If I want to hear a bunch of noodling, I'll listen to speed metal. (I'm no metal fan either, but I'd take it over the Flecktones...)

I think it's funny how Bela has an emg pickup on one of his banjos, when there mostly associated with the metal genre.
But yea he's insane.

Living? Maybe.
Dead or alive? No way.
Jaco Pastorius gets that.

I saw Bela Fleck and the Flecktones play when I was 18. I was so impressed, I helped them load up their equipment after the show.
