any tips on playing A-wing, specifically with offensive positioning around the 12th and 8th? I know that one of the main jobs of the midfielder is transitioning and moving the ball up field so that an attacker can score. But, I've been told that as a midfielder I should stay around the 12th or 8th but not really be doing the cuts. However, other people have told me the opposite- that once the ball is up field that i should be making cuts when possible, just like the homes would do. Choosing whether to cut and to position yourself probably partially depends on each specific game and what is going at a specific time, but do you guys have any tips? Is it better in general not to make cuts and to stay around the 12th? or is it better to try to make cuts and to stay around the 8th?
any other tips for play midfield would be appreciated too, thanks

What happens on the 8th and the 12th? And is that for this month or what?
It brings such joy into my heart to see the antiquated position names being used still today. Homes...a-wings...cover points....ahhh, a trip in the wayback machine...to the land of women's lacrosse past!
As a midfielder it's your job to basically do everything. You're not the delivery person for the attack. You don't give them the ball and just take a seat. You play defense, bring the ball up the field, and you play offense and score. Plain and simple.
Where you should be around the 8m and 12m arcs is up to your coach, but anyone who says you should be staying up at the 12 and not cutting/scoring cuase you're a middie is flat out wrong and needs to be hit in the nose with a rolled up newspaper while simultaniously saying "NO".

The best and most productive way is to just flow with your offense. Throw and move the ball quick and always be moving your feet. If you see an opening cut there and try to get the ball. Make sure your cuts and passes have purpose, you dont need to just move the ball with no purpose, it will achieve nothing and more than likely someone on your team will throw it away. Make sure that all offensive positions have purpose. Depening on the offense, middies can play low or high, im guess the 8 and 12 are refrences like on a clock from the goalie's perspective. You should be able to move around and play all positions above the goal equally good, just make sure you can get back on defense when you need too.

Actually I think that she meant the 8 and 12 meter arcs...Anyways, you obviously don't just want to be standing out on the 12 the entire game, as an a-wing you need to be involved in the offense too. Depending on your coach and offensive sets your role will vary but you should be cutting and working to get open just like everyone else.

get your one handed draw catches down for on the circle and jump if you are on the circle. draws are really important.

Make sure you have a pretty high endurance, because you're going to be constantly on the run. As mentioned before you're responsible for playing offense and attack, so make sure you can transition from one to the other quickly.
As far as positioning on the 8 and 12, just keep cutting...and recutting. You want to tire your defender out and keep her on the move as much as possible. Chances are she'll slip up one of the times you go to cut, especially if you make quick and precise cuts often.
All have given you good advice but let me ask one question. How does your coach want you to play it? That will be the deciding factor.
