A number of girls on my team have acrylics and can play with them just fine. I can't imagine your girl will be taking many checks to the hands, especially in a way where she'd break a nail. Also, I don't think any slip of the shaft would pop them off either, so.
While I personally don't know (esp. since I play goalie anyway), I would suggest that if she continues getting fakes, keep them on the shorter side. That way if she grips the shaft tightly, she doesn't dig her nails into her palms.

but she'll get one just because its pink, or pretty or something like that
Ah, her and like 98% of all first-time players. And a good portion of experienced ones!
Honestly, I hate when a shooter has a pink stick. I don't really know why.. perhaps it's too princessy for me, but when I see a girl come up with a pink shaft/head, I get agitated.

I wouldn't call yellow intimidating either, lol but really I don't have much of a say in this, she won't listen to what I suggest or let me come.. oh well.. I'm gonna laugh when halfway through the season she blames a lack of success on her $120 stick and gets another. (She's got a lot more money then me.. I had to like, not eat for a week to get myself a new shaft)

ok i know this is a tad off the acrylic nail topic, but if your loking for a stick for her thats a good beginner stick then i would get the Brine XCEL, at Sports Her Way they are only $39.99, and they come in pink if thats the color she wants.
I'll definately show it to her.. thanks

having fake nails just doesn't fit "good athlete" style. unless you play tennis or do gymnastics then you should pretty much not have fake nails while playing a sport. it's not cool for other players or yourself. all i know is that if i got scraped by her nails i'd hunt her down and make sure she'd never play again. that happens in basketball and it pisses me off. i think its just retarded to have long nails while playing any sport.
yellow is a good color stick especially head and strings bc it hides the ball.

An argument can be made that long fake nails can be a hazard to other players and therefore illegal under numerous rules in the women's game. Rules like no jewelry, no hard brimmed hats, no equipment/clothing with hard/sharp edges, etc etc. I've see girls get swiped by a handful of fake nails and it's not a pretty sight.

about the fake nails ... i took a shot to the hand ( im a goalie) the nails just broke off of my own nail but my real nail was fine no bleeding at all , but then my friend took a shaft to the hand and broke both nails split right in half down the centre and she had to rip the split nails off her self other wise she couldnt play ... blood everywhere ... so think about that, no pretty nails for a few months during lacrosse season or pretty nails and having the risk of only have half a nail cause the other half got ripped off ?!? lol ... you could still paint your real nails for the few months ....

Yeah, I have seen some nasty acrylic incidents. I would just suggest that she holds off until after the season is over, and also keep her real nails on the shorter side.
I've gotten a few of my real nails hacked off a few times and its not fun...at all, I can't imagine how much worse it would be if I had been wearing acrylics.
However, as mentioned above, if she absolutely feels she needs to wear acrylics tell her that they should probably be shorter and wearing gloves on the field may not be a bad idea. That way if she does happen to get hit or something, the gloves will provide a little bit of protection.

Ick. Yeah, I'm saying keep the nails short too. Just the thought of them digging into my hand makes me want to skeeve.

Word. I'm glad I play goalie, as if some girl dug her nails into my face/hand/whatever, I'd have no choice but to turn around and implant my stick in her forehead.

people will probably not take you seriously if you play with fake nails...might want to consider cutting them/not having fake ones...

I'm thinking that your girl will break them pretty soon. It's hard not to in lacrosse. I know a girl last year that was playing a tourny with them and they bent backwards and broke and she cut herself and a few people.

Don't worry, it can happen to you too. Maybe not in the hand or face because of your gloves and helmet, but it can happen along with many other things. I've had some nails get a little too close to my skin, nothing too big, but I've also been checked inside of the crease, after the whistle had blown (no foul either :hot: ), checked all over my body (arms, shoulders, head etc) and generally seen as a target when I walk/run out of the crease for some reason. The helmet helps, so do the gloves, but your arms are still exposed as well as a lot of other things. It's decent though, I love going out so a few checks/scratches aren't going to stop me. About the whole going after them to put your stick in her forehead... maybe not so brutal. You can definitely get away with some things though, just keep in mind a yellow card is not the best option for a goalie. Be careful and you'll be fine, there are little things you can pull that usually won't get noticed which will cause some bruises (not that I've ever tried it before).
As for the whole fake nail thing, I would say no. I've seen regular nails go bye bye after a nasty check to the finger, I can only imagine how much fun it would be with fake nails. At the very least keep them short.
