What does it say in the rules about piercings? I pierced my ear last night completely forgetting about taking it out for a game. Is putting some athletic wrap over it legal or does it have to be completely out?

I'll probably just end up taking it out and re-piercing it after season if it's not legal.

Piercings are not legal. Take'em out before any game or practice.

Last year, we weren't allowed to even have tape over them. Taking them out it your best bet.

For an ear, I'd just count on my helmet's ear flaps to obscure the view.

It's illegal, but probably no one's going to notice unless you get in a fight and lose your helmet. Besides, you only have to do this for a few weeks. Once you've worn the earring for like 4 weeks straight taking it out for like 2 hours for a game is no problem.

Umm unless you're a goalie, girls don't wear helmets RockStar...and a lax game generally isn't 2 hours...

but, if you're not allowed to tape 'em, you gotta take 'em out

Alright, thanks guys. The ref said something about a plastic piece you could put in the whole to wear in games. Anyone aware of this?

They're called retainers. Technically, I don't believe they're allowed either, but they don't stick out like jewelry does, so if you're really worried about the hole closing up on you, you could give it a shot. However, don't get upset or surprised if refs tell you to take that out too.

I don't know about lacrosse but I remember being in 6th grade(soccer) and throwing a fit because I just got my ears pierced and had to take them out. My mom ended up re-piercing them during halftime. Sry, I had to tell the story.

The ref said it was because not only can it cause "danger" to the other players but there is also, I think he said a nerve behind your ear that could cause something to happen to your face. I don't know if cottonballs and bandaids are allowed anymore.

So you can either wait and see if the refs notice and/or do your hair so it covers your ears. Or just take the earrings out until after season. I would try talking to a ref in your area and see what they see so you don't have to go through piercing them again.

There's a good thread on rules against jewelry here. Rule is 7-G.
http://www.lacrosseforums.com/showthread.php?t=15443

7-G also says,"The umpire has the power to rule any decoration as dangerous to other players, to removie it from the field of play, and to penalize it as a minor foul."

So you can either wait and see if the refs notice and/or do your hair so it covers your ears. Or just take the earrings out until after season. This pretty much sums it up. If the umpires can see your jewelry, it's coming out. If you blatantly use band-aids and tape to cover piercings, they're still coming out. You dangle your tongue piercing outside of your mouth... that's right, coming out. You lift up your jersey to wipe sweat off your face and inadverdantly show off your navel piercing. Coming off.

On the other hand... if the top of your ear is pierced, and you wear a headband, bandana, or your hair in a way that covers it, then you'll probably get away w/ it. If you have a bracelet on but wear a terry cloth wristband over it, you'll probably get away w/ that too. Anklet on you ankle? Tuck it in your sock and you should be ok.

Then again, if you can't show it off, then it wouldn't be jewelry, right?

Easy Rule - no jewlery allowed - plastic, metal, wood, rubber - period. End of discussion.

RYU IS right: If the umpires can see your jewelry, it's coming out.

If you blatantly use band-aids and tape to cover piercings, they're still coming out and you could be awarded a yellow card for a flagrant violation of Rules..

You dangle your tongue piercing outside of your mouth, your leaving the game to address the problem and minor foul.

You lift up your jersey to wipe sweat off your face and inadverdantly show off your navel piercing. Coming off after you leave the game minor foul - I've seen this one done.

Take the jewlery out and leave it on the sideline!

I have always gone along with that what they cant see cant hurt. What level do you play at? because in high school they did alow taping of ears, but refs didnt like it. In college they will make you uncover your ears to see if you are hiding something. So it depends. Get creative.

On another not hot topic sells those ear retainer things, but i dont know if they are legal. Lax-Umpire care to comment on this topic (the ear retainers i mean)

But for in the future dont perice anything at least six weeks before the season starts. That way u wont ran into this problum.

Good Luck!

Not sure what the ear retainer things are, but the way I look at it is - if it's in your ear and you were not born with it - it is jewlery. Take it out, it's the rule.

No jewlery - that includes under the helmet for a goalie.

Of course - there is the exception for medical device - hearing aid, with medical waiver. I have seen one girl that wore one in PA at a Tournament.

i know rules are rules, but when i played in high school and had a pierced eyebrow a retainer worked for me. you can get it pretty much anywhere that body jewelry is sold. you're taking a risk with it, though.

i had the same issue. it kind of depends on the ref and how strict they are. i ended up taking out the earrings for an hour and putting them back right after the game (it doesn't hurt that much). if you do wear it, expect to take it out.

my friend got her cartilage pierced the week before our season started.

shes had it in every game all season only using her hair to cover it. the refs really dont study your ears all that closely during the game, just be carefull during stick checks.

I have my nose pierced and I used this clear plastic "plug" thing during the season. It kept my whole so it wouldnt close up, but you cant see it at all. I know they sell them for ears as well.

I got my nose pierced, and u cant leave the ring out for like 6 months. So during the season i used plastic wire cut into 5mm pieces as a plug. the refs didn't notice, so it was worth it cause getting it repierced would cost around 50$.

never give out advice about a peircing ever again. to anyone. never. i work at the tattoo studio that my dad owns. ive been through the trainging for peircing 3 times so far (tattooing 5-6 times). i know what im talking about. i peircing of the body (not mouth or genitals) takes from 4-6 months to fully heal all the way through the hole. this is assuming that it is cared for properly (cleaned once a day, right before you get out of the shower, with normal antibacterial soap. NO ALCOHOL OR BACTINE/BATADINE). until the healing process is completed, the jewerly should NEVER be removed under any circumstance and should never be touched unless you are cleaning it with clean hands that once a day in the shower. dont give advice on what you know nothing about.

this happened so many times on my team this year and it is wicked annoying for the team mates and embarassing... so many times people had a necklace on or a hemp bracelet that was seen by the ref and a time out was called and the person had to leave the game so ur best bet would be to just take it out!!!
