Quint K. runs his mouth in his column on Insidelacrosse.com
http://www.insidelacrosse.com/page.cfm?pagerid=2&news=fdetail&storyid=112180
Found this little gem while searching the site. Nice previews and all, analysis pretty well spot on, and all in all I was impressed until I got to his last paragraph on scrimages, and the I realized exactly why I think he belongs as far away from any forms of communication with the outside world as possible, so that he can't embarass himself or others.
For those of you too lazy to read the link, here's the cut and paste:
Scrimmage Etiquette
Winning a scrimmage is an oxymoron. Athletic departments that release game reports after scrimmages detailing scoring are bush league. Scoreboards should show time only. And reversibles should be worn, not jerseys. The class programs in Division I lacrosse would never release a detailed game report after a scrimmage.
Oh really? What about those diehard fans that want to know how their team is doing, how players are performing, learn a bit about the up and coming players, the new freshman, the big transfer, etc? What about schools who would like to publicize their program at any opportunity?

I agree with you, I've all over the internet trying to look for information on the Navy v 'Cuse scimmage, and haven't found it. Its something I would like to know about. It would be extremely helpful to learn of the up and coming players, roles of the old ones, or even how the team competed against the other.
Even though I've been in the sport for 5 years, I don't really know too much about Quint K., its probably due to the lack of broadcasting of lacrosse games here.

I actually agree with Quint. Having played D1, there is no way a scrimmage score can be taken seriously. When you're wearing full sweats and reversibles, it doesn't count. Yes, it is definitely a good way to judge freshmen and new guys, and to help players get into game shape..that is all. Sometimes coaches would blow whistles on turnovers and give the ball back. Quint played big time ball at Hopkins. His opinion is a valid one.

Quint was 100% on the money. If you know anything about sports, a scrimmage is designed to help teams improve...test things...generally try different lineups, etc., in the hopes of improving, NOT with the hope of winning.
Any coach, team or fan who actually reads anything into the result of a scrimmage is out of touch with what they're all about.
It's refreshing to read real insight into the game. For those of you who disagree...wake up.

But what about some kid on the West Coast who wants to know how the scrimmage went, but he couldnt fly cross country to see it?

It can go either way. On one side of the story it would be nice to see how my fav. team (UVA) is doing in the preseason. On the other hand i know it isnt high school and pre-season games really dont mean a thing. Alot of programs just take out there good players. But of course i still think the teams should release the scores.

If you are going to edit my post that much, I would prefer it be removed entirely. I understand that you have an obligation to protect your writers and I'll respect that, however I feel that it wasn't so much an attack as it was a commentary.
Its a sad statement to me that its ok for Quint K. to openly slam and insult the athletic departments of major DI schools and refer to them as bush league, among other things, but that my comments get censored.
What it really comes down to is what side of the fence do you want to be on regarding the progress of our sport. And for the heck of it, I'll post my thoughts on that in a seperate thread and see where it goes.

Thank you.
lot of that going on lately.. nothing should be edited out..!
Yea i agree, I was desperately waiting for the season to see how danny gladding and garret billings would play, and if there was no reports after their scrimmages agaisnt drexel and butler i wouldnt have known, plus wearing ur jerseys isnt offensive to anyone, even though that can go either way in my mind. He seems like hes just trying to act like his **** dont smell

The guy is a hall of famer.....his s*** doesn't smell. He's on the money. If you put stock in your favorite team's scrimmage performances, good luck. If anyone beats Duke preseason, they will get beat down when it counts. Same goes for all the good teams....you don't scrimmage to win. You scrimmage to evaluate talent and look for areas to improve.

Do you seriously think that the interest is in the final score? Get real. People want to know how players looked, what they were working on, etc. Maybe a preview of the incoming freshman class, etc. Seeing if player X has recovered from their injury or whatever. And if you don't live nearby or aren't able to go then you have to depend on game reports for your information. Its not the end of the world that schools put these reports out, its because the demand for information is there and they are simply filling it.
Guess we shouldn't ask for fall ball scores and reports either, because after all, they are just technically scrimages too right???
