There are some teams right now that need to make a move into the division 1 level and drop the club idea. The IA should hlp teams move up into the NCAA and encourage teams like Colorado state and BYU to sanction lacrosse. What other teams could do it?
What do you think about this? I think that expansion of the 54 teams to about 70 would be great. Keep in mind march madness in basketball and all those teams, what if lacrosse was like that too.

To me this seems like the way college lax is headed. It should be the "Big" sport of the spring in about 15 more years.

agreed that it needs to be THE spring sport...
Fall = Football
Winter = Basketball
Spring = ??? Gotta be lax...
Well...If the finals keep geting huge numbers who knows...maybe it will happen in less than 15 years...I'd say half of that.

the 15 years I talk about, is about casual sports fans caring. If you want to get technical lax is the biggest spring sports right now (in some aspects). 15 years is when I think it could get to the level of football, b-ball, ect.

People keep saying that lacrosse will be the biggest sport in 15 years but i highly doubt it, thats what people were saying about soccer too not too long ago. Sports dont grow like that and i love lacrosse it is by far my favorite sport but i doubt that it will branch out that rapidly. I still think that baseball will stay the spring sport. now i know im gonna get ripped on this one but im a synical guy.

I agree with LaxGoalie. College baseball is huge in the midwest. I went to Nebraska last year for the NCAA Baseball championships and it was standing room only. I prefer Lacrosse, but can it overtake Americas sport? Now I have to go hop in my Chevy and drive to my girls house for some apple pie. If you know what i mean;)

the advantage lacrosse has though is that it is the fastest growing sport and it has the ability to get bigger and if new teams join the mix, it would get to be bigger. Are there any club teams in the south or even the east coast that could make the transition to div 1 like denver did not too long ago?

lacrosse will never be on the same level as baseball basketball or football.

if the NCAA can get more BIG East and ACC teams in like the big florida colleges, that could help

i know in my town college lax is more popular then college baseball. Hell...the little league world series is more popular then college baseball. But then again the little league world series is hot. I think lax will be the next big college championship and its already on the way there. If they get more teams in the tournemnt it will probably be better.

You, also have to look at all the up coming D1 colleges in other states. Both Tennessee and Florida will have a D1 college in them in the next 2 to3 years. If those two teams can draw a good crowd it could convince other big name colleges to give it a try.

sorry for being realistic. it will always be a niche sport in this country. at most it would surpass hockey, but that's it.
i hope i'm wrong aboout it but what qualities does lax have that football or basketball or baseball not have?

If lacrosse was to get big it would be in 50+ years like it took football there would have to be some big game a lightbulb may i say. Something that will spark the intrest of people (i know we had a thread about a spark). Like for football it was the superbowl when the underated jets led by a hero in joe namath upset the highly favored colts. Before that game there was not a lot of interest in football the games drew measly crowds and now look at football today raking upwards of 80 million vewiers a year in one single game, the super bowl with companies bidding on 60 second spots for millions. It will take lacrosse in my mind as long as football if not maybe more. Lacrosse does need a spark of its own a big rivarly a hero a spokseperson for the league who is not only a good player on the field but a good person off. For colleges to get good attendences there first must be an interest in lacrosse and i believe that all boils down to the kids and them playing if you cant influence the kids it will be hard for the sport to grow. If you can reach the children when they get older they will go out and buy season tickets and teach there kids to play like fathers teach there kids how to play baseball at an early age. Lacrosse has a long way to go before they become the baseball of america or if the sport will even last no one knows

I was not saying that lacrosse would surpass all these other sports in my lifetime but that it could be another huge sport if more teams were in to it. It would be great if tennesse and florida and whoever else would get a team into d1 like the many teams in NY and MD. Baseball is the sport that everybody has played and that is how it will be for a long time. We just need some more participation before the sport can grow.

i dont think lax can surpass football or basketball, but i have some feeling about baseball. i also think that the fall of hockey is coming very very soon, and lax will become the 4th major sport in 10 years or so

lets just hope we are all right about the rise of lacrosse as a major sport.

Hold up...
I think we got 2 different topics here...sparked by jmp's comments
he did say COLLEGE sports...
yes it will take a LONG time to make it professionally...however in the college ranks...I see lax overtaking baseball in about 10 years...
Lax is hot...and is growing quickly at HS and college levels...
As far as Pro lax...well...yeah as LZ said...there was a whole big thread previously about a needed spark...Maybe some college lax story that will happen in the next 10 yrs as the game gets big will be that spark

Side note...
Look at the NCAA tourney...people I know that don't follow basketball bet and watch the games...I wonder if gambling was the spark that hit college hoops...

yah, college lax is by far more popular and i think that college sprots in general have a stronger fan support because many more people have been able to play and or experience the game than have made it to the pros
