i saw him on sportscenter today. while it's an amazing story, i think his autism is somewhat mild. one of my good friends has an autistic brother and he acts nothing like this kid on TV. he lit it up in his 4 minutes though.

Yea this happened at my school (Greece Athena High School) abot 1 and a half weeks ago. His autism isn't that bad though, it is kind of hard to tell he has it. Everyone calls him J-MAC. it's too bad that I didn't go to the game. So far I've seen him on CNN, Cold Pizza, all the local news channels, and he was on Good Morning America at 8:30 this morning.

It said he was what doctors called "fuctionally autistic." I could be wrong, but "aspergers syndrome" might be a relavent term.

Edit: Also, how blown would you be if you were on the loosing team. Not only getting beat by an autistic kid, but having your loss all over the national news.

If you read about his whole background, you'd agree with me that there WILL be a movie on it.

If you watched the SportsCenter segment, they did an interview with him. Because i started watching it during the interview i was confused why it was such a big national news event. But it was obvious there was something strange cause he was looking away, his sentences were wierd and his answers were short and (weak?). As if he was too cool to do the interview, like he didnt want to be on ESPN

My brother has extremely mild autism, it was so mild that I think the doctors are trying to take away the diagnosis right now because it doesn't quite fit anymore.

He had it when he was young and while he couldn't talk in sentences when he was little, he was able to read and do math at an early age.

Faceitoff, I don't think you have the wrong impression about autism. It's a 'disease' where your skills aren't as balanced as the rest of people in society.

Lets say you have three skills, social, motor, and analytical. If the average of these three skills = 5 for every person, normal people would have each skill at a level of 5. Whereas an autistic person would maybe have a social skill level of 3, motor skill level of 3 and an anaylitical skill level of 9. You can get valedictorian w/ low social and motor skills.

You mean I have the wrong impression, and I realize that now. Thanks?

ti said in the newspaper yesterday that Disney called his house hoping for a movie deal. And here is the GMA interview. (http://abcnews.go.com/Video/playerIndex?id=1657457) It is kinda cool to see a kid from my school and a gym teacher on Good Morning America and ESPN.

Thanks for the video link. Jason was more autistic than I had orginially thought, makes this story that much better.

With a preformance like his it's hard to imagin he didn't make the team. If he played like that during tryouts he should have made the team easy. There must be some really good players on the team for him not making the team. Unless he played really bad in tryouts and practiced with the team the whole season. over all, very touching story
