My friend and I started lacrosse at the same time. He's an amazing athlete. He has become the star of our team this year in his second year of playing. He's a left handed d-man with amazing stick skills, and tons of brute force. Outside of school practice, he practices his stick skills for at least 3 hours a day. He's planning on joining the navy, because he can only really afford community college and he would rather not stay here. I think he's probably good enough to play D1, but he just doesn't have the grades. He's a senior this year, and I know it's late... but are there any D2 schools that would possibly have scholarship money left? How would he go about finding out, or is it even worth looking in to?

if he's not gettin looked at by any schools, its really difficult, and far too late in the applying/recruiting phase. why doesnt he try to walk on at navy if hes that good?

He's not going to the academy... and I assume that the team is just the academy.

oh gotcha, well, maybe, take a year off, and apply somewhere d2 and walk on, then he could work up from there.

No offense, but some guy who has only been playing for two years, from Florida, doesn't have much chance of getting noticed by coaches during his senior year.

you'd be surprised about some florida players. yes...the 2 years part is iffy (i've played 3 and i KNOW im not going anywhere), but you'd be thoroughly surprised by some of us "southern" boys.

Well, this kid is 6'2'' 207 lbs, all muscle, 4.6ish 40 yard, and is just an amazing athlete. He practices so much. And yes, he's black. But that's not important.

Right now he says that he wants to go into the navy for four years, get his AA, then go to a school in Jersey (his homestate) to play lacrosse and get his BA.

I think your friend has a decent plan, especially if his grades &/or finances are lacking. There's no shame in not entering college right after HS. Four years in the Navy will probably earn him a full GI Bill to pay his full tuition where ever he decides to go after completing his service contract. Also, he will still have all his eligibility to play in college too, if he wants that.
