I've read what a lot of goalies on here play with, but what is your favorite set up / stick combo?

Mine personally is the eclipse on an 803.

Ha, me too. dyed Eclipse on black 803. Ive got a Sentinal and Goalmaster too (bought the Sentinal from stin), but I dont like the triangular shape of the Goalmaster (still a good stick though, the pocket just forms weird with closed sidewall[for me, at least >_>]), and the mesh doesent stay as tight near the scoop on the Sentinal as it does on the Eclipse (=more whip), since the Sentinal is mostly square.

You couldve just got an 803 goalie shaft, cheaper, more or less the same shaft

Ya the wonderboy looks so much sweeter.. and it has grip right? i dunno but my fav setup is a nemisis on a kryptolight even if it broke and i have a wirefade now.

Not neon green. Still, kind of a waste, seeing how you paid an additional 50+ dollars (Wonderboy Xcel Pole [not exactly sure]-120~, dB803 goalie-70) for a neon green instead of dark green or black.

Yeah, wtf? Why would you buy a dpole of any type and use it as a goalie shaft? Who cares that it's neon green, just wait for Maverick to come out with a goalie shaft.

Abyss on DB803. I used to always use my eclipse, but there's something about the abyss I like. I think since it's more triangular than the eclipse, idk. It's also nice because I never have to worry about breaking the abyss, because I can get a new one for $20. I think I'm gonna save up and buy like 2 or 3 abyss's, just to mess around with stringing and for backups.

head-eclipse
shaft-f-15/Axe they are pretty mucht he same, or atleast i think they are

i've used an Eclipse, Abyss, Zone and only like the Eclipse
i've used an F-15, Axe, Harrow goalie and absolutly hated the Harrow

never used a 803 but from what i'm reading on the forums it sounds like a darn good shaft

Cause I needed a new shaft and I care if it's neon green, it has better grip and looks better than the 803, and I'm pretty sure Mav isn't coming out with a goalie shaft anytime soon.

I'm sold on the Eclipse/db803 combo myself. Compared to the old wood and aluminum shafts I used to play with in the 80's and 90's, it feels like a freakin' feather. I also find the STX Axe a nice backup shaft to have. Pretty light as well.

instead of making a new thread, I'll ask you educated goalie people. My team this year wants a back up goalie, so I decided to step up for it. I have a few goalie related questions.
Whats a good goalie head under 60 bucks?
What is the advantage of using a goalie shaft, is it really worth the extra?
What stringing would be good for a beginner?

I used to have a nemesis, but then it became extremly flexible plus my kpro broke. Now i have a money on a ti22.

E: to answer your question above, the eclipse is listed at 70 so just shell out the extra 10 bucks http://www.lulax.com//index.cfm/p/3/c/6/pid/324

1. Goalmaster is a classic, great head.
2. The only reason I wouldn't get a goalie length is because when I started the end would always hit my leg when making offside stick saves, I'm sure that has happened to a couple other goalies here too.
3. You probably don't to use a super deep pocket at the beginning cause that will mess your throwing up. So a moderately deep 12 diamond should do it.

eclipse on 803

demongoalie

1. Abyss, great head, and really cheap.
2. Get a goalie shaft, and if you feel it's too long then cut off an inch or two. The extra length does help. It gives more leverage so it clears are easier, and also it makes more weight below your hands when you're in goal, so you have that weight to throw around which helps me.
3. Good stringing would be 12D or maybe normal hard mesh, but it's harder to get a deep pocket without open sidewalls in hard. Whatever you choose, DO NOT get soft. If it gets wet the whip is so bad you cannot throw at all! It's also more prone to rip.

Hope that helped

Goalmaster on an old brine TI Powergrip(5 years old now and still going strong). I have to have some girth and weight to my goalie sticks, or it's no fun... Though I might try one of these 803's everyone's talking about (need cash money first).

EDIT: I've played with abysses, Eclipses, Goalmasters, Guardians, Nemesi (nemesis plural hah)heads and C405, C555, F15 and titanium shafts, so far, I'm not a big fan of the brine goalie heads, so I have yet to try any. All of the heads listed above I have broken @ least 2 of except for the goalmaster, so I'm sticking with what I can rely on, and for the shafts, Titanium is the only thing that felt comfortable, and stable in my hands. Everything else cracked @ the bottom from tapping the post (after 1 season or so, not even game sticks), orit just felt like a toy. Though hardly anybody plays with titanium anymore

I use an Eclipse on a Brine TI Powergrip shaft that I started using my 3rd year in college (2001). It was a D-Pole that my teammate gave me (he had like 5) and I cut it down to 38''. It is perfect in that it is extremely light yet I have total control of it in my hands. I use it for my box and my outdoor leagues. And in my alumni games when I take on the younger guys. Before the Powergrip, I used the Brine F-15 that was pretty light (yeah, we were sponsored by Brine). They gave us free Extremes; I still have mine in my equipment bag (Does anyone use that head?). Brine still needs to work on their goalie heads, but I hear that that should change early in 2007. As for the Eclipse, it feels the most like a Goalmaster (the benchmark of goalie heads) of the offset/sorta offset heads. Way back in high school (late 90s) I used a Goalmaster on a Warrior titanium. Head was perfect and the shaft was light as a feather. Ah the old days...

yeah I did that last year, but ive since realized that the grip on the kpro rules and that a nemesis on it is money. So i would have to say the nemesis and the kpro.

Nemesis+TitanPro=
Eclipse + platinum alloy

P.S.- People please stop :chair: on the Nemesis, it's just preference, it varies from one person to the next. Some like Nemmy's, some 'Clipses, or the Abyss'. It's all the preference of the player.

I used to use an Eclipse on an 803, however I soon started to not like the grip on the 803 for some dumb reason....However the Eclipse was nice, but then I found the Gait Sentinel. I use that now, it is really nice. So, basically, I stick with the Gait Sentinel and a titanium Triax. A lot of people look at me weird when I tell them I use a triax, but I love the feel of it when I make a save or what not. So, here I am with two identical sticks. Both of which are Sentinels on Titanium Triaxs.
