Is this move allowed in girls lacrosse, and if so, when/where is it allowed? It's obviously done a lot in the boys/mens game, but I haven't seen enough girls games to know if it's legal there. Seems like it would be illegal since covering is illegal, but I don't know. I wanted to get a rulebook to check it out, but US Lacrosse wants $10.40 to ship a $6.95 rulebook so I decided to just ask here instead!

Goalies are allowed to clamp and rake the ball in two cases. If the ball is within the crease, they're allowed to clamp it. If the ball is out of the crease, they're allowed to clamp it as long as no opposing players are around within reach of the ball as that would be a cover. Unfortunately, some officials call them for a cover in this situation even when no opposing players are around.

A field player is actually allowed to cover as well, assuming there isn't an opponent in position to play the ball. Same goes for the goalie as CTlaxer stated.

EDIT- I should also mention something for the GK. She can scoop the ball or whatnot that is outside of the crease and bring it back into the crease, as long as she is in the crease. She cannot have a foot on the line or out of the crease.

I dont know the exact wording, but I am pritty sure that a goalie can only play the ball if she is 1.) totaly inside the crease, meaning both feet, stick, and body, or 2.) she is totaly out side the crease, again meaning both feet, stick, and body.

So for example if a ball is rolling around outside the crease in order for me to play it I must scoop it up and then get out of the crease, or else it is a crease volation on me.

I could be totaly off on this but i just thought i would put my two cents in.

Only if one or both of the goalie's feet are outside or on the line of the crease. Otherwise, she still has her ten seconds. However, if the goalie's stick is hanging out of the crease and she herself is in the crease, her stick can be checked.

The law is an a$s.

In this case, the funny thing is that there is really no need for the rule. If no one else is close enough to play the ball, it should be an easy two-hand scoop job. No reason to clamp.

Well if you're saving it from going out of bounds, it could be a different story...

GoalLax- If both of your feet are inside the crease, you can pick up a ball from the outside and not violate any rules.

as a goalie, you can get away with pretty much antying inside the crease. you can rake the ball, you can pick it up with your hands. with both feet in the crease( and not on the line) you can reach out get the ball and bring it back in. but if you go to stop a pass or anything like that and you step out of the crease or step on the line you have to committ and run out of the crease. then you can run around to the back of the crease and roll the ball into the back of the net then step in and pick it up. you just can not be outside of the crease and walk back into the crease w/ the ball in your possession.
