I'm trying to get the swim dodge down with a women's stick...it's proving to be a bit difficult for a number of reasons.

One is girls sticks are generally longer than boys sticks, so it's hard to go over someone with it and still retain the ball. Also, due to pocket depth, it's tough to keep it in while moving. I can do it while standing still and while not moving very fast, but on the run against an opponent, it always falls out.

Should I give up? Can it be done? Thoughts?

im a guy and i can do it with a girls stick. if you really want to use it you can, but i would say that its not worth it and you probably wont use it in a game. a swim dodge (also called chickenwing, rainbowdodge, etc) is where you have your stick in one hand and pull your stick over the persons head and then put it in your other hand.

What's a swim dodge?A swim dodge is where you (the ball-carrier) square up w/ a defender, drop to your belly quickly, and immediately flail your arms & legs around like you're doing the the breast stroke. After your defender(s) has buckled over from laughing uncontrollably, you quickly get back up and run by her unfettered. Use it sparingly, as this trick dodge only works once or twice per game.

Should I give up? Can it be done? Thoughts?I can also do it easily while stationary or moving slowly. I've never tried it on a full run, but I think I could quickly master it.

The main obstacle to the swim is keeping your stick out of your defender's sphere. If you hit your defender in the head trying to pull the dodge, you're definitely getting carded. If you pull your stick through her sphere or make her have to duck, you should get called for a major foul.

There's also the problem of getting your stick over the your defender's stick. In mlax, defenders carry their sticks lower (even the long poles), b/c they're taught to primarily check their opponents' gloves. In wlax, defenders generally carry their sticks higher, b/c they can only check stick-to-stick. So if your defender is carrying her stick vertically, you have to do something to get her to drop her stick before pulling a swim. If her stick is vertical, you'll probably hit her stick w/ your stick or arm, in which case, you might get called for initiating illegal body-to-crosse contact.

In any case, I doubt you can successfully do a swim unless there's a significant height &/or arm length differential. I think the ball-carrier would have to be at least 6" taller than her defender.

Can it be done? I think yes it can, although very rarely. Should you give it up? There are more practical things you could be practicing, like BTB passes and between-the-legs shots.

oooh yeah. make sure you are alot taller then your defender. i forgot to add that. i would work on something else if i were you, but if you can do it they may hit you illeagally and draw a penalty, which happens to me in guys all the time, and i knwo its alot more strict in womens

RYU: I'm just practing it on my own, seeing if it's plausible in the women's game. I have quite a few tall girls on my team, and all my defenders are taller girls too. I've noticed that a lot of my opponents do not have tall defenders, which got me thinking about the swim dodge. I figure, one of my taller attackers could pull it off, especially since half of the defenders out here in arizona do not get their sticks up on defense for some odd reason.
