Am I coaching HS or College or youth or men's club? Is my team any good? And, most important, are these releasable or not?

NFHS, releasable. Your team is pretty good, but not the best.

if it's international.. one man up for two minutes.. score, call a timeout and hope to win the face off

2 man up for one minute - I think I have a greater chance to score the better the odds.

Well goodness, if it is releasable no questions 2 man up for 1 minute.

2 men up is the only way to go, it puts the other team down 2 players, and as long as your offense doesnt try to force the ball, 90% of the time your team will find the back of the cage. Speaking from experience as a defenseman, the field is simply too big for 4 guys to defend versus 6. Much easier to spend two minutes down only one man, you can force a turnover easier and then posess in the offensive end.

If I was on defense I'd rather be 1-man down for two minutes, so I'm gong to pick two man up for one minute.

Totally agree with that. There is just NO excuse for not scoring with a 2 man advantage...it's like shooting quail named Whittington.

You ought to see some of the teams around here. I had a team kill off a 3-man penalty for 1:00, then another two down 1 man. (It was more a case of bad offense than good defense!)

We were 2 men down for a minute, then 3 men down for 30 seconds, but killed it....as soon as our last man got released and back to d, they scored on us, though

Are you really playing in Norway? If so, cool!

Yes, we're just starting. The team I was talking about that was 3 men down was in Germany. We'll hopefully play the first game here in 8 weeks.

Which would you prefer?

Which would I prefer...
...as the ref: Doesn't matter as long as the table doesn't screw it up.

...as the coach of the man-up team: If penalties are NR, then I would want 1 man for 2 mins. Else, it would depend on the capabilities of my shooters: Weaker shooters means I would prefer 2 men for 1 min.

...as the coach of the man-down team: If penalties are NR, then I would want 2 men for 1 min. and hope my 4 guys could last that long. If releaseable, I would also prefer 2 men for 1 min. unless I knew I could steal the ball and possess 1 man down for most of 2 mins.

...as the LS on the man-down team: I would prefer to go hard for a minute than have to be picked apart for 2 mins., which really depends on the attacking shooters and my GK. If we could stave off a goal for that one min, that would likely change the emotion of the rest of the game.

It all depends on who you are asking.
