I was wondering if a goalie can check a field player's stick when they are in the crease. Some people just leave their sticks out and I can easily check them, but I thought that might be illegal. Anyone know?
thanks

no definately not. i cant tell you how many goals i probably saved just because i stepped up (still inside the crease tho) and checked the other girl w/ a lose top hand. as long your check is legal its ok. i went to lehigh university a while ago and i was the only goalie to actually check anybody and it impressed a lot of ppl. so i would def say go for it!

Just make sure you dont violate any crease rules, because you will go behind the shooter and she will have a wide open net, But other wise yes be agressive.

yea you can but make sure that you dont get called for an illegal check. but my coach tells me to do it all the time and it works for me!

definitely do it. as long as you don't make an outrageous check on the girl and get a foul called on you because like said previously, you'll be standing on the 12 while she's making an open shot on goal. but seriously if the girl's right on your crease just let her know you're there.

If she's not paying attention, I'd say go for it. One thing I have started to do alot more of is when they're right on the crease is step up and block their shot before it's even started. Alot of the times, at least in my section, refs won't call much on a goalie so I seem to get away w/ alot...just try it out!

If it's there, go for it, but remember you can get the same fouls as any other person on the field. I personally don't check them that much, usually the opportunity never presents itself. I also find that I save more when I stay back, it gives me more reaction time. I meet them at the crease sometimes, but I generally stay back. But that is definitely a personal thing. Staying back gets you more reaction time but they have more of the net to look at, going up cuts off the angle but allows them to fake you easier and I find they usually beat you when they start to roll the crease and keep on going though. It's all up to you. If you do go for the check, just be careful, you could find yourself at the 12 with a wide open net if you're not cognizant of what you're doing.

this goalie i knew...i swung her stick...like a baseball bat...in her first game...to the back of the girl's knees...because she kept going in the crease and the ref didn't call it....and that ref recommended it too...
it was a bad ref...
