In my school lax training started around january. Both boys and girls.

and by what types of people play i mean from what groups do the girls come from. I noticed that a lot of girls both popular and not popular "hot" girls and "not hot girls" are playing. It seems like they are playin to just be cool or sumthin. Well i was just wondering if its just my school or others. Im in michigan by the way

Hmm...
All the cool kids play DUH! :)
Almost everyone on my team is pretty/smart/hyper.
But not pretty in a materialistic way, pretty in a jock.I don't care what I look like way.. and I look hot anyway...but sometimes I spend some time getting ready in the morning..and look even more amazing...
Then we are all sort of discreet nerds...like not losers..but def get above average grades...
and we are all silly and hyper...

I guess my school doesn't have the "popular" etcc kinds of things...like we did in middle school, but now we don't like think about that stuff...
Some of the freshmen are like they...they all suckkk and play because it's "cool"

^hmm, well if your really dedicated to lax, then you prob. wouldnt be partying too much. anyways, yea in our school we have a lot of "popular" girls that play just to keep occupied, or because they want a team shirt.we also have a few (very few) people who are dedicated and serious about lax.

We've had a few "popular" girls try out this year. Needless to say, they've never played before in their life. It's perfect fine to me, as long as they're serious about the sport.

I have noticed that lot of the girls that play are the "popular" ones, that is only true with the sophmore and senior class though because the juniors that play are not too popular.

I don't know too much about he guys team, it is pretty much a combination, but mostly the popular ones.

FOr club lax though the girls are so much more down to earth.

I palyed lacrosse for a little while, then stopped. But i noticed then, that everyone was very snobby. i remmeber there was this girl who had JUST started palying and she wasn't very good, and she was very slow at running. all the "popular" people picked on her, and always made her the "Ball-retriever" It was so sad. i think it was just at my school, but i'm not sure. I lived in michigan where lacrosse wasn't really that big. Football was bigger. But i moved to PA and here all everyone ever talks about is lacrosse. so idk

Sometimes the laxers are the ones who drink, sometimes they're the A students, sometimes there's a mix...it depends on your school and location, etc. At my school it changes from grade to grade. Our class of laxers tends to be out going and nice, but there are exceptions of course, and these are generalizations.

It is the type of person that gets a yellow card every game playing soccer.

it's "cool"

same here! and for the whole popular thing...we don't have that too much (probably too small) but the kids who play sports are popular and vice versa. Our school is all about sports

I think that it's natural that the kids that play sports, no matter what location you are in, are going to the be the more outgoing kids. I just find this because MOST of the time, shy or really quiet kids don't go out and try to make a team, or have the courage to take the chance of being cut from the team. I know that in maryland, where i live, lacrosse is THE sport, and yeah, most of the girls are outgoing and hyper. We don't care what people think and just have fun.

Mostly everyone on my HS team (guys) are pretty popular...a few are kinda annoying, and a few are sorta wierd loners, but most are pretty popular.

My school is a lot like y'alls. We have the vast majority being popular girls (certainly not me haha) But most of them really surprised me, they seemed to care and most weren't half bad. A lot of them tho, didn't play other sports, and probaly wouldnt refer to themselves as athletes. But it works so whatever

A lot of people sign up because they think lacrosse looks really “cool” but once they see how dedicated and athletic you have to be they quit. :whyme: We started out with twice the amount of girls we have now, in season. As soon as we started conditioning about half of them quit. I think that’s good though because then you don’t have the people there that are screwing around and wasting practice time.

Me and some of the girl's on my team have been here for been together playing and we wouldn't be considered "popular". Everybody in our school knows that we are the lacrosse players. Then we have the "popular" people who just play because it's "cool" and nobody else does it. They, of course, aren't the best... at all...

this is stupid.

athletes play lacrosse. you have to be able to run, take yourself and the game seriously...

i don't understand what stupid stereotypes have to do with anything. Just play the game and love it.

at my school about half the team plays field hockey (not me, i swim) and theres like 2 of us left who are really serious about lax. But for the most part everyone is pretty into working hard and we have a few who love conditioning. last season we also had the highest average out of all the sports teams... guys and girls. it was like a 96.4 or something.

I suppose it depends:

There are a couple who are self-proclaimed populars who feel like they own the world and party all the time
There are a couple (which include me) that are very involved in school, and want to do well, and we do
There are a couple of girls who only worry about boys
There are a couple who play just to play and be known to play lax, maybe a status thing

I dunno, there is a mix. Sadly, a lot of times, the team divides into clicks, which sucks when you want to have a TEAM, not a team of clicks. (Most of the time it's populars vs. everyone else)

Girls will be girls, which quite frankly, sucks.

my schools pretty small so people from all the "groups" play. we might not get along the rest of the year but during lax you cant break us apart. thats the same for girls and guys. we all get along and we all love the sport.

My team has people from all groups, so thats not a problem, BUT my coach totally separates the JV and the Varsity, so all the Varsity players think they are so much better than everyone, even though most of them are on them because they are upperclassmen (and i know this for a fact) i am so annoyed about that!

MOST of the girls who play lacrosse at my school are Ugg-wearing blondes with hair ribbons and who play just because they think it's cool.

(I'm in the D.C. area.)

There's a FEW really, really good players who are actually dedicated to it, and they're not "popular", and don't go around saying "Wow I am so good at lax." I have one friend who has been helping me practice for my first season, and she's super good. All the other lacrosse-girls pick on her, calling her ugly, and she just shrugs it off because she's not snobby like them.

I HAVEN'T been playing because of the whole "popularity" thing. I was going through my noncomformist stage.

Now I know that I should play if I want to, even if people are gonna judge me. =) Screw 'emmm.

What "type" of people play? Hmmmmmmmm...... let's see here. Well...... anyone who is interested in playing may do so if they wish.

Seriously though... that's what's so cool about this sport! :D Anyone from any walk of life can play because it doesn't discriminate against anyone. Honest. :) That's why there are so many different men's, women's and minor leagues for kids, practice leagues for adults like myself who've only been playing the game for 3 years now and so on.

One thing that will NEVER happen to you is getting turned down for wanting to play. As long as you're genuinely interested and committed to playing, that's all you need.

However.... ANYWAYS..... if you're thinking about getting into it, I wish you all the best! :agree:

im from a little town in CNY and in my school it seems like a little of everything plays...im one of the people who is friends of almost anyone but we have some of the "popular" girls and we have a friend of the quiet girls...for the most part all of us get A's and B's and have been playing with each other for at least 2 or 3 years

none of the "popular" girls play at our school, they're more interested in other things than sports haha
but i guess most people in our school that play lacrosse really do play for the love of the sport. its too intense at our school to really play for any other reason.
in our grade in particular, most of the girls who play do well in school and are generally well respected by everyone. this is not necessarily true for all of the grades, but at our school particularly lacrosse, field hockey, and basketball are hardcore, and if you're there for anything else but the game, you are cut or placed on the last team.
