so last week our star midfielder gets pulled off the team by his mom because he failed a class last semester and then failed the online class he was taking to make up for it, and as a result will not be able to graduate on time. and our coach gets this crazy idea, lets move a goalie to his position! and so I get thrown into this nice whirlwind spot that I'm completely unfamiliar with(I've played goalie in everything since I can remember) so anyways, point is, anybody ever had to deal with this? and if so, can you give me some tips for my left(throwing and shooting mostly) and what would be some of the best things/habits to break coming from the position I was in... thanks guys...

um wow your coach is pretty bright. if it was my decision i would move a second string midfield to his position whos alot more conditioned from running around in the game, and knows alot more about how to play midfield, and who has actually trained his game for midfield. but tips for middie since i am one... get low on groundballs, always sprint, cradle one handed just as much as you cradle two handed, when your passing to the left wing throw left handed or when recieving a pass from the left wing catch it left handed, and vice versa. be agressive, and when your on a fastbreak, always look for an open man. groundballs are the most important thing though... there is a thread on it if you search. and for training your left hand.. just practice with it.

thanks, and I'm not directly filling his spot, but I"m coming up to fill a midfield spot, and its not a problem with me bein conditioned to run, I run to stay in shape... all of the time, and thats a good idea aussie, the mirror thing, and I play my first game as midfield tomorrow night against our easiest opponent of the year, a nice time to see if I can actually play well or not in this position

You kinda have an advantage if you can shoot accuratly becaus eif you've been a goalie for as long as you can remember I would think that you would know the best places to shoot and how to trick the goalie. But thats just an assumption because I have always been a middie.

Just try to watch other midfielders and pick up some tips, u probably have good reflexes and are fast so thats too plus. Work on stick work and shooting the most i would say. Also for an example of someone who did this D'Andrea of Georgetown, he now plays d-middie

I played midi once in one of our fall ball games cause we didn't have enough people. I didn't really do anything, I was just kinda there. But anyways, all I can tell you for your left is wallball and shoot.
