View Full Version : Power Bars
I searched, but couldn't find what I was looking for. As you all probably know, there are many different types of Power Bars (performance, harvest, triple threat, etc.) Is there really a big difference between these? Which one is the best for before a game or practice?

Yea look at the calories, carbs, fat, protein, and of course price. You could always just eat before a game or practice, but if you do want to spend the money something with higher carb will be fine I personally like a high protein bar. I only eat these on ocassion after workouts, I don't for lacrosse.

That is not what you really want to eat before a practice/game.
A good option would be a fueling food that keeps your energy level high that is quick digesting. Some examples would be complex carbohydrates that don't take a lot of energy to digest with minimal proteins and water, such as a decent, but not over-whelming amount of White Grain Crackers like Ritz or 2 slices of white bread with sparing amounts of peanut butter (for taste). And always drink water with that.
Then for during practice, you could have a PowerBar Preformance with water or a PowerGel (if you like it, personally I do). And another good fuel is Gatorade, if you have approxametly 1/4 cup every 15 minutes it really helps you stay energized for the activity.
Finally, post game. On average, it takes longer to refuel if you don't eat within the first 30 minutes after finishing practice than if you wait. So eat within the first 30 minutes and it will do you wonders. Approxemetly 40 grams of carbohydrate (a banana) and up to 8 grams of proteins (not necessary). If you wait past that 30 minute period then it takes up to 1 1/2 days to get up to your highest potential, but if you eat sooner rather than later then you can be fully refueled within about 3 hours.
Hope this helps, good luck.
