So this is the first year our high school is having a lacrosse team. and theres a lot of kids playing, most of them have never played. But a select group of us have played together on an indoor league. And in the indoor league we won almost everygame and usually only had 8 kids (including goalie) so we managed to run the whole game. But our goalie is a good friend of mine, and he is big and out of shape, like badly, but he was so big, and so fearless, he put his body behind every shot. he was a stonewall, I remember one time we got a double penalty, 2 of our middies were in the box at the same time, our goalie stopped about 9 shots in a row. But everyone on the forums here say that the goalie needs to be really athletic, i don't understand why? and If out goalie is out of shape, do you think he'll be alright?

probly so he can make save after save after save after save....after save without being slowed down by fatigue. he wont do bad, but he should probly work on getting in shape a little bit.

I don't know what if the size of a net in an indoor game is the same size as a field lacrosse net or box net, but if the field nets are pretty big, meaning a goalie would have to use quickness and agility rather then sheer size.

Once you get at a higher level, you need a goalie that doesn't just take up space because you'll play against kid who can aim at places OTHER than the goalie's body. You also want a goalie who can make saves with his stick, not just his body.

once he gets hit with a shot going 90 then he wont want to stop it with his body any more trust me

hey may be able to get the job done in box but field is a completely different game. dont worry about him being out of shape, but c if you can get him to run a few laps so he doesnt lose his breath during a game. also, teams like athletic goalies so that when they make the quick/agile save, they can also carry the ball. i guarrantee if ur goalie is huge he doesnt like to run, and if he doesnt like to run he might have some issues clearing the ball.
