i dont know if anyones gonna beat mine though

we are the obezags (gazebo spelled backwards)
we got on sportscenter once for like the top 100 weird mascots

Their girls teams were called the "hoochie Mamas"

no, it doesnt really have a point... our school logo is a gazebo. So some stupid person decided to name our sports teams the obezags. we just use Zags for short.

My son's team name is the Ironmen, the team aquired the name when in their first year they only had 11 players. They would play a JV game, then all 11 would play a varsity game immediately after. But the weirdest is our girls team is named the Iron Maidens. If I am not mistaken that was a torture devise that was kind of a casket with spikes inside. And yes, it is the name of a '80s metal band.

The iron maiden did not originally have spikes in it. It was spikeless and after it was not used anymore, somebody put spikes in it to make it look even more fiercesome. I saw it in Rothenburg ob der Tauber in Germany at a museum of torture.

The South Dakota M&T "Hardrockers" also stood out.

My high school (still around today), nickname and mascot "Gremlins," and since 1923, not just since the 70's movie...from what I have always understood is the only so-named high school in the country, Houghton High School, Houghton, Michigan (upper penninsula)...I confess that I had not heard of the Nimrods, but other teams from the northern part of Michigan were the L'Anse Purple Hornets, the Ishpeming Hematites (a geolocial term), the Escanaba Eskimoes.
