is there really any consistent way to setup a defense to do this dodge? ive only done it in practice, never in a game, because ive never figured out how to get the opprotunity. this goes for all guys, both bigger and smaller than me. anyone that is good at this have any tips? thanks

try and shield the stick with your body while doing the dodge

thats true for all dodges and all aspects of the game as well, but it may help you find out what to do

This is what I do, I can't take credit though, ryan boyle taught me this at the trilogy lacrosse camp: Set things up in your dominant hand. Now split dodge early with a decent amount of room. Now its in your weak hand. This is when you read what your defender does. If he doesn't approach, just resplit and you're back in your dominant hand, possibly confusing him because of thechange in direction. If he is coming at you, you can either roll or do the swim move. I find the swim most effective when he is approaching you, otherwise, its more of just a fancy split dodge.

He coached the juniors club team out here in Nor Cal last year and he's suppose to coach JV for our organization this year but looking at what you said, it looks like thats not happening...

The swim move leaves a lot of your stikc exposed. Try to get you defenseman going full speed in one direction, so that he's so worried about keeping up with he won't be able to throw in a stick check.

i only swim dodge when im in really tight spots because you leave so much open..including your whole chest and your stick

yea what you do not want to do is square off your defender. Back up so you have some room, and to let the defence know that u are about to school them. Then

1.)run slightly at an angle towards ure defender. righties thats slightly to the right.

2.) studder step but keep going right (sprinting)

3.) then stop running , the d will stop to but u are slightly ahead which will give you room to swing the stick over ure head and run. you will then have the stick in ure left hand. ;)

note try it out on ure friends first dont just do it in a game and expect it to work.

practice makes perfect

i usually come down and split dodge to my left, get the defender moving that way, than cut back with a swim move.

I wouldnt do it against anyone taller than me
basically if your a tall skinny midfielder going against a short stick who is about 6 inches shorter than you, everything will fall into place
any other situation I dont think its worth it
yeha mikey powell does it in his highlight film against a pole, but really he already has the guy beat
a smart longstick will just spear you in the chest if you do it far away, or if your clsoe to him he would just lift yoru stick up
its too risky against the longstick in my opinion
