i got this pain that wont go away in my lower back. it hurts like when i hunch over and relax my back, when a do i lot a sprinting (up-and-down stress). i think my coach pinpointed it: its hamstring related. like not so much when i go to stress the hamstring but when i get in that position. this would make sense, since when sprinting and taking longer strides, there is greater stress on the hamstring. my coach gave me a few stretches, and the neurologist said that it was nothing serious, but is there anything else I can do?

Im having problems similiar to what you're having. My lower back hurts when i run and contract the muscles. I went to a sports doctor and a chiropractor. The sports guy did some therapy things to me and gave me a few excercises to strengthen my back and abs. The chiropractor said my hamstrings were really tight, and gave me some stretches to do. Im taking muscle relaxants and anti inflammatory stuff (ibuprofen?), and this seems to be helping some, but i guess you should just keep stretching.

i strech my hamstrings before every running session to stop this sort of thing happening

this can lead to some serious back problems...you'll get all out of alignment
if your back starts bothering you in the morning, or there is a constant, dull pain around your hip area (but still in your back) - go see a chiropractor

so keep stretching the hamstrings, take some ibuprofein, lay off stressful work, and strengthen my abs and core muscles, gotcha.

I'm not a doctor nor a chiropractor but I've found lower back pain that is not injury related to be a result of tight hip flexors causing an exaggerated anterior pelvic tilt, not hamstrings. The hamstrings insert on the ischial tuberosity (your seat bones for the high schooler) and insert on the back of the tibia (crossing the knee joint). The hip flexors (iliopsoas) insert along the lateral sides of the lumbar vertebrae (low back), cross through the hip complex and attached to the lesser trochanter of the femur (high schooler read = inside upper thigh bone). If this muscles becomes tight and overactive, it will pull on your lower back causing low back pain.
The hamstrings don't connect to the low back, they connect to your lower pelvis. I usually find tight hamstrings to be associated with patellar tendonitis and knee pain but again.....I'm no doctor. If they are indeed causing low back pain, you probably have some other issues going on as well. Try talking to a trainer or a chiropractor familiar with postural deviation, they could help you out.

Yeah. Cbury sounds right. I had some bad knee pain and that was hamstrings.
Now I got your problem, and it cannot be hamstrings or my knee would hurt now too..
I did it in goal, and other running/skating activities. It started after I pulled my hip flexor, and after skating it hurts the rest of the day. So maybe stretching those and strengthing them would help then?
