search...

and you kinda hit the ball with the inside scoop of the stick while moving the stick perpendicular to the direction you're facing...
once you hit the ball, you kinda roll your stick underneath it really quick

it's hard to explain...but that's the best that i can for the time being

spend your time learning how to do things correctly, and if you already know how, then spend your time practicing rather then learning this useless skill. I used to do it too, until i saw casey powell try and do some ridiculous pickup in a game, while he was wide open nobody around him, and he dropped his stick right onto the ground, ball rolled away towards the other team. from then on, i stopped working on trick stuff like that and just practiced the right stuff.

Dont do Indian Pickups in real games. If it works you look cool, but if you mess it up you look like a newb.

I mean if you can do it then use it in a game but there are times when you know not to do it and others where you could do it, like on attack and the balls rolling away form halfline from you and you quickly do it to pick it up instead of stopping to rack it back to you.

Its part of the game some people call it fancy but its just like btb, if you practice it for fun and at times after you have practiced fundamentles and things needed to learn then it can be used.

theres a reverse indian pickup too! (two actually) dragging the ball under your scoop and flipping it over, and also rolling the back of your head over a ball while flexing your stick sideways. it pinches the ball and grabs it...

dont do it in a game unless your really good at it. But to learn how to do it go to a school or somthin and do it on thick bark a mulch it's alot easier to practice beginning on that

I find Indian pickups easier on grass or turf than on concrete. If you can get them right on the hard, smooth surface, they're dead easy on slower surfaces.

If you're using an Indian woodstick, they actually work better than conventional scooping (gee, I wonder why they're called Indian pickups!).

As for using them in a game situation, they have their place.

Unlike conventional scooping, you really don't have to crouch into the scooping action to pick the ball up. If you're about to be yard-saled by an onrushing opponent, it's really a better idea to keep your head up than it is to stick to sound fundamentals!

If your coach gives you the gears about using an Indian pickup in such a situation:

1 - ask him to show you how to scoop, and,
2 - put your shoulder into his jaw when he crouches over.

That usually learns 'em!
