hey guys,
I am a big fan of splenda sweetner (0 calories) it tastes just like sugar. Anyway, i make koolaid with splenda alot and im wondering if there are any negative effects of this. I know that diet soda isn't as good as water because of phosphates, but would making koolaid without sugar (so it ends up being 0 calories with vitamin C) have anything bad? Is this the same as drinking water (the health aspects of it)

i'm guessing it wouldnt hydrate you as well. i dont know anything about splenda but even if it doesnt make you fat or anything, it probably won't hydrate you as well as water would.

Sugary drinks aren't good unless you use real sugar. Darn man everybody knows that. (in cajun guy voice from Joe Dirt)

Actually both splenda and sweet-n-low are both bad for you. Its says on the packet that it causes cancer in lab animals. The best is pure brown cane sugar.

And this is a selling point for this product?

guys im not really worried about getting cancer from replacement sugars. phones cause cancer, tv causes cancer, pretty much everything causes cancer so i dont really care about that. I wanted to know about hydration and stuff like that.

Haha, we were just discussing this at practice the other day. Splenda, Sweet n Low, Vitamin Water, etc.

Do you know how much artificial sweetener you'd have to intake to get cancer? You'd basically need to have it hooked up to a constant IV drip in your elbow for the next five years.

right you are my man, its fruit punch.

And for all of you other people, its not like this is all im drinking, but i'll probably drink around a gallon of water, and then maybe 2 glasses of this as kinda like a treat. (instead of soda or iced tea like some people would do...)

Haha your right I love it when people talk about artificial sugars giving you cancer. Rats got cancer after eating nothing but the stuff for about 7 months or something ridiculous like that. Put it this way, too much of anything will kill you.

But to answer your question, I don't think that all the artificial flavors and crap they put in kool aid will be so good if you drink the stuff for hydration purposes. It would be a good drink if your cutting down on the calorie intake, but I don't think you would be able to substitute it for water or gatorade.

its fruit punch.
and by the way its red kool aid not fruit punch.

Damn, I better pull out that Splenda drip I got goin here.

But as far as artificial sweeteners go, its nice to know I can grab a diet soda, and not have it hit my calorie intake. I need that for when I'm buying my double quarter pounder. I need to watch my figure.

Hahah, I'm totally a diet soda girl. But I've been drinking it for years, and it has nothing to do with the "diet" aspect of it. Drinking it for so long has gotten me used to the taste of it, so regular soda is ubersweet and almost slimy going down.
