dying sidewall string

i have bought colored sidewall string before and it always cost more so i tried dying it myself with rit die just like i do my heads. After i took the strings out of the dye i let them dry and then ran them under cold water the color quickly faded. how do i get the color to stop fading.

it doesnt really work. I tried dying some strings red with rit but they turned out pink and coloring still comes off on the ball and stuff. It just doesnt work

I don't think it will work because of the material of sidewall string. I really can't think of what to do to make it stay.

yeah i tried red and it came out pink
