I am an attackman and need to know when exactly is a "good" or "proper" time to execute a dodge. I practice my dodges a lot and my shooting on the run a lot but I don't know when to actually dodge. When my team is just passing the ball around should I automatically just pass it to someone that is open or calling for help or should I back up and prepare for a dodge? When should I attempt a dodge? When we get the ball settled on offense and begin to work (pass) the ball around when I get it I usually just take a quick look for cutteres and then pass it if I see no cutters. But I wanna be more of a threat on the field by dodging and knocking in a few goals. After all, that is one of the main jobs of an attackmen.
So any tips on when to execute a dodge. I know a whole lot of dodges, just I never put them to use.

if you are talknig about the sticky on dodges i already read that and it doesn't answer my exact question. When or how often should I attempt a dodge? I know what dodges I can use and where I can use them just I don't know when to dodge. For example, lets say my team got the ball setteled and is pasing it around. Once the ball gets passes to me, should I take it out to a wing and prepare for a dodge or what???

a tutorial i saw by millon somewhere on the net said, know at least three dodges , try at least 2 per game
dodge when ur not running a play and jsut working it around the perimeter, also dodge to draw a slide not to get by ur man necessarily
if the sldie doesnt come, rip it, if it does, theres an open man and a nice A for u in the books

it also depends were you are in the field and the strength of the d man if its a mismatch take him every single time

You may have seen the tutorial, but I think you missed the when/where to use dodges section. I'm not trying to flame you or anyting, just saying, it's on there.

^I did see that section in the tutorial and i am not flaming you but I don't think you understand my question. It the tutorial it tells them which dodge to use depending on the situation. Example: Use this dodge if you are at X. Or, use this dodge if you are at a wing. My question is not what dodge to use and when to use a certain dodge but rather when to dodge. Whenever I get the ball should I just attempt to dodge? I don't want to become a ball hog or anything but I want to be more aggressive with the ball. And i can do that by dodging. But, when to is my question and how often.

I undertand your question.. let me see if I can help.
If your an attackman and you want to use a roll dodge wait till his stick is in the direction you are running and his hand are at your back, then roll the other way.

To make a spilt dodge... wait till the defender lunges at a certain direction then move to the opposite side.

alright, how often do you other attackmen dodge? lets say you get a pass and your defender moves towards you but is not really being aggressive and you still have enough space to make a pass without having to worry about getting checked, should i try and take a few steps back and attempt a dodge, like a split dodge or crossface or something? how often do you other attackmen dodge???

It depends on what you want to do. As soon as you get it you can dodge for pass. If you want to take a few steps back tell your other attackmen to move out, this way you can draw another defender towards you and then dump it off to your teamate.

DODGE WHEN GUYS TRY TO HIT YOU! IT WORKS BETTER THAN GETTING HIT.
other than those times i cant see when ud need 2 dodge, other than trying to get some guy to hit you. try and draw out the slow ones, they cant get back into position

i know that in the other thread it suggested split for open field, but does anyone have like a trick that they do with the split dodge when the ball is settled?
cz when we settle the ball, i usually drive one way, then roll off him. i really cant see any other way of doing it... (unless its just a split dodge by itself of course).

basically, dodging will usually be incorporated into a team's offensive strategy. If your team does not have dodging incorporated, you will have to improvise a little. Remember, when dodging, you will not be trying to blow by your man, your goal should be to free up your arms and hands for a shot or a pass.
the best time to dodge, is when you find a match up you like, or if your defender commits to one side or another of you as you receive a pass.
when you find a match up you like, find a way to create some space... either move out on the wing, up top, or behind before you receive a pass. once you receive a pass, dodge right away... make one move and go.. if you're stopped, or you can't get a shot off or a pass, pull it out and move the ball to a teammate.
once you receive a pass, try to get a feel for what side your defender is approaching.. if he's approaching you to your upfield shoulder, split downfield toward the goal. if he's approaching your downfield shoulder split or dodge upfield.

Sorry I didn't understand your question: I'll try to answer it this time.
WHEN TO DODGE:
First of all, you have to make sure these are true:
1. You have the ball.
2. No one else is open.
These are some other special situations when it helps to dodge:
3. When a defender is playing you very tightly.
4. When a defender is playing you too far out.
5. When a defenseman is sliding to gaurd you (face dodge = most effective)
6. When you are within shooting distance from the goal.

lax1228, when you say no one else is open, you mean no cutters or just in general because their is almost always someone open. i just am confused because when I watch the pros playing attack they try and dodge whenever they get the ball to one of their attackmen but i don't know if i should try and dodge everytime. i have been playing lax for a couple years now and have gone to some camps (millon camp). I was told that the job of the attackmen was to "attack" the goal and to do this you shoot, make cuts, and dodge. i really want to start dodging and being aggressive with the ball but don't wanna seem like a ball hog. well, i have a game tomorrow, i guess i will try a few dodges early in the game and if i beat my man i will keep trying to dodge him. thx for the tips everyone.

^^ i mean that no one else is open that is closer to the goal than you are.
