Ok.. i got myself quite a handful and honestly, i have no idea what so ever what to do.
I'm 14, and playing Bantam 2nd year. I missed out a season last year due to pushes to play bball, so i did, but i realized i missed lacrosse.. and damn i did, so i set out to come bck with a friend.

My first year ever of lacrosse, the year i was named All star of the Burnaby Jack Crosby tournament, i had a coach... he was the best and honestly prolly wouldnt keep playin if it wasnt for him.

anyways, this year, i set out playing a year of not-as-competitive lacrosse, and opted to play on his "B" team. to be honest, its what i believed i was going to do until tryouts began.

so yeah, tryouts began, and my old A1 coach on Peewee shows up to prac. goddamn i was scared about what to say to him cuz he heard i wanted to play B and all. anyways, we did everything you know kids do.. scrimmige and all.. and yeah, not to be cocky, but im pretty sure i shined above most of the kids there.

after tryouts, he called me n a friend over.. and basically told us we had a free ride onto the A team and wouldn't take no for an answer. i kind of wanna play A, and i kinda wanna play B. i dont know what to do!

coach on A is great too, he talked to me about it.. u know, the convincing kind of talk.

please help, any opinions would be great.

every b practice now i gota come up with somethin silly gettin my way out of coming to an A workout. since tryouts arent over, yes, i still have a choice. any input would be great. thanks

I know I would rather play at the higher level but this is your decision, not mine. Just pick what you would rather play. A will be a lot more stress but it will also make you the better player. Another thing to lok at will be floor time. Will you be getting lots of floor time if you play A?
Just pick one and stick with it. If you decide to play B, who cares what the A coach says?

As a life-long coach, granted at the American field level, that was MY job. When I had to make varsity, JV and freshman teams when I was coaching HS, there was always the odd freshman or sophomore that was good enough to start on varsity.

I would step up and play A level. Lacrosse, and all sports for that matter are all about the competition. That's what we, as men, thrive on. How will you feel when your A team loses to your archrival and you KNOW you would have made a difference.

I am 39 years-old. I am currentlly the Head Coach of the American Lacrosse League champions, a field and box official, coach of my son's Under-11 field team and a box and field player. It is 7am in the morning and I am in my classroom before class. My knees are killing me from reffing last night until 10pm and if I could, I would come up there and take that spot that you don't seem to want.

My point?? - Life is short...do the best you can, the most you can and the most you can for other people while you are on this earth.

Step up and play A team!!!

Hmm, if I were you, I would go for "A".
Chances are, it would make you a muich better player.
You don't really hear of a lot of stories like these with kids wanting to play lower or easier levels. When I was your age, everyone wanted to be on the highest level they could.
Go for what ever you think would be best for you.

Who else is gonna be on the one team? Last year in bantam the same thing happened to me, but my dad was the two coach. I played for him, even tho i was on the 'worse' team. But I am sure I came out a better player for having gone with the two team. If you are going to be the best player on the two team, it'll be good exerience in leadership, and taking your game to the next level (you don't know how much teams key up on the best players)

well.. everyone on that A1 team will be people i know, because they were on the Peewee team.
there will be new face, nonetheless.

BUT, on the B team, i know many players too.... keep em coming.. A tryouts are tonight!

My opinion ... as a young player you'll have a much better chance of improving your skills by playing with the A team. However if the B coach is smart he'll let you play on his team when you're available. Practice with both if you can and play with both if you can, but prioritize the better team. Good luck.
