USA
Field:
*start playing at U9 level in local club/youth leagues, usually 2-3 practices a week, 1 game per week, spring
*HS age, start playing freshman/JV/Varsity, no youth clubs, Spring sport, practice everyday and play 2-3 games per week, all school based.
*Some private schools and publcis schools have middle school teams
*Offseason - summer leagues run by other groups, same with fall, HS clubs formed for recruiting tournaments in summer. Various offseason tournaments.
*non-Pro Adults - clubs play in various leagues is spring, off-season tourneys

Box:
* strictly and off-season diversion for the most part, true field coaches HATE it for bad habits, etc.
*many "indoor leagues" play 7v7 with a 2-2-2-G concept.

You can start Box at 4 like Chamoo said, and you can start Field at like U7? or U9. They are all out of school sports. Some high schools have field teams but Lacrosse is mosly played outside of schoool
