Hey guys...Last night I had a rough game. I was being heavily facegaurded and i was held to only 2 goals. My team won in the last minute by one goal, thank God for one of my attackers. I had a rough time getting myself open and making good cuts in order to receive the ball. I wanted to see if anyone could help me udnerstand how to get open and where tocuts. I'm usually facegaurded every game, but not usually behind the cage, so thats where i get the ball and yesterday she was playing me behind. It also doesn't help that my teammates do not set picks nor do they understand how to. Is there anything I can say to them in order to help them? And how do I get open? I need lots of help onthis...it's my biggest weakness, thanks!

Sounds like you are a strong player. If you are chased behind the crease, have your team clear your dominant side of the 8, then burn the face and role the crease. 2 or 3 doses of this and they will back off and you can do your own thing.
If she is being marked tightly then most of the time she does not even have the ball. This is where a team that has a go to player and she is used all the time gets beat. The rest of the team needs to step up and get the job done with out her.

Yeah the problem is getting the ball. If I had the ball I could totally burn her, but I need help with my cuts/ methods to get open with someone playing my that tightly. My coach said she's going to spend a practice next week on how to get me open, so that should help with my other team mates as far as setting picks goes.

If she is up on you, why not roll the crease and blow by her? You can also try clearing two girls to the opposite side of the field so it is a one V. one situation. It sounds like you are a good player so I would just hand it to your defender.

I agree with laxfolife24. Use the goal circle as a pick. Go to one side or the other, about even with the back edge of the goal circle. Then use a roll dodge or any other dodge to swith direction and sweep as close to the back of the circle as you can. The defender can't stay between you and the rest of your team without going through the circle which would be a foul.

We usually faceguard the top girl or two girls on our opposing team. In practice to get ready, I am the girl that is faceguarded. To get open you just have to wear the other girl down. If girls won't set picks for you, set picks for your girls and peal. Pop out, then backdoor cut especially if they are aggressive. Another strategy that I use when a girl won't pick for me is just to use a girl thats just sitting back on the eight and run literally inches from her, around her and then cut to the goal. Essentially using their defense as a pick. It's hard to explain haha. But basically, just NEVER stop running. Everytime I would stop for just a second my coach would yell and tell me I'm not working hard enough, and it was true. So try it in practice if your coach will let you. End of the halves, your girl will be tired and you always win. It sounds like you are a go to girl so when they do you do get open your teammates should be looking for you.
