I think they might or might not be trying to sell you the most expensive pads they've got.

last spring i bought the MLL 5.0 pads, (it was worth spending the extra $$, my shoulders are pretty messed up from not wearing shoulder pads till my sr. year in college) they are great.

the hitman seems to be the lower priced version of the mll 5.0. so i think they would do a good job

a starting defensemen on our team has the flares. they seem pretty nice. look like they will protect and are light.

as for what pads to get, its a personal decision. a lot of defensemen dont wear a lot of protection. they dont really need it. kids on my team have prolly some of the smallest stuff that they can get away with. personally, i like to know that i have on some protective gear. that way im worried less about me gettin hurt and more on stripping the ball from the attackmen. and a big thing for me is that i want a pad to come down where it will cover an protect my chest.

i use the reg x-factor shoulder pads. they are nice. i think the shoulders are a little restricting but nothing serious. the spartan core sp look nice by brine. pretty much anything will work.

if you d-man are laying a lot of hard hits down, get the best protecting shoulder pads you can. i'm in ly late thirties and have pretty constan shoulder pain from the hitting i did in HS and college. had i worn shoulderpads then, i think i'd be in in less pain now

intrepids are good. i just picked some up.

spennster is rite. if you lead with your shoulder in hits get some bigger pads. i had adrenalines with out the shoulder cups or bicep pads and my shoulders were constantly black and blue.

IMO the STX Glad's look nice. Try those for less expensive pads.

If your going to get anything Warrior then go for the Hitman, not MLL line. The only difference is that the MLL line (the all silver line) is silver. Other than that there really is no difference in features/performance. I like the less subdued Hitman look anyway.

glads are expensive. a liner for 60 and the full for 75.

mll's have the new blue liner and mll's are detachable and give more protection.

I meant less expensive than Warrior. The VaporTek liner your referring to is nice but not necessary. Just wear UA. The detachable thing depends on the version of the MLL line and if I remember correctly the features are pretty much exactly the same, as is the look. Check your latest GA catalog.

I don't know if they're still selling them, I don't see 'em a lot but the DeBeer Enigmas

sumsum, you're not a man. therefore you don't sweat like one. you have no idea what shoulder pads without a decent liner smell like

i use rhinoskin. it is great. its washable and its sweet. provides good protection.

Dont know man. Most people care less about shoulder pads, they usually go for the bare minimum. Only on the frosh team do we see mll 5.0's (no offense to those who have). Our entire varsity team pretty much uses avalanch lite shoulder pads.

BUT

after trying on the gforce shoulder pads.....the most protective, flexible pad money can buy

If I were a defenseman I would use some rhinoskin but I am a goalie so go figure.

I play d and use the STX Gladiators  . I love the hard shoulder caps and they stay in place without having the bicep pads on. Great protection, but not much wieght and they ventilate well. A little pricy but search around, it's worth the extra $.

I think Spartan Cores are the best all around

Hockey shoulder pads = legal
No shoulder pads = ILLEGAL.

Regulate34, you need to learn the rules. That is, of course, if you're talking about playing a GAME without pads.
