I've just got a somewhat unrelated question. I'm going to be trying out for Lakeshore Select (http://www.lakeshorelacrosse.com/select/index.html) which is new traveling club team in my area.
I'm new to this kind of thing since I play at a HS with no cuts. So I was wondering if anyone would be able to tell me the kinds of things we might be doing at tryouts? I'm assuming lots of different skill activities and probably a timed run (but how long?)
I'm inbetween the varsity & jv teams at my school, so I'm a little concerned about being good enough to make the team (it's only open to varsity or potentials...) Also, I'm pretty nervous since I'm not quite sure which schools try out for which division, but I know there are amazing girls in my area that's I'd be competing against (Loyola, Hinsdale, Lake Forest, New Trier, etc.)
Well, thanks very much! :D

And good luck to anyone who's trying out for National!
when you say the national team, in our case are you referring to the great lakes team....i know regional tryouts are on 4/30...this year they are planning on taking 3 teams for a memorial day tourney....

I originally posted my question in the National Team thread since they were talking about tryouts, so I was just saying good luck to any of the girls who were trying out in their region. I'll take that out now since it's irrelevant. Hope that was clear. :)

such as passing and catching, both stationary and on the run. You should be able to run a sprint between the restraining lines whilst cradling and keeping the ball in the pocket of your crosse rather than on the ground. you should know at least two different dodges and be able to execute them well. Lastly, you should be able to catch and throw with left hand as wel as the right hand. Lakeshore is trying to market itself now as a director of elite teams for national and local tourneys, such as the lax.com midwest showcase which started up last year at Loyola's fields in Glenview, so Lakeshore shall more want girls that can do the above without problem rather than take girls just to form a team.
Keep in mind who you will be trying out against. There are three such teams being organized in Chcago, and your best bet given your location, is the one out West in Downers Grove. So your competition to make the team wil be Lyons, OPRF, Hinsdale, STC, Fenwick girls and maybe some from the Naperville area that do not go for the Midwest Lax one. There may be one forming out south. They tried last year but fizzled due to family time contraints.
It would do you well to go work out on a wall between now and their tryout dates. Even if you do not make it, you will leave the tryout with the knowledge of what they are looking for in case you decide to do it next year. Good luck!

Yeah, she's coaching for the west division, which is where I would have been playing. Anyhow, I didn't end up trying out. When I got my invite, I was playing jv full-time, and practicing/going to the games for varsity. But between then and the tryout date I spent more time on jv. So when the date came around, I decided against it. -shrugs- By the time next year comes around I'll be in better shape and overall more prepared for that level of play. Much thanks to slidesilk through! Your comments were very, very helpful! :) And have fun hclax!
